Heading over to smoky bay next week for a bit of a holiday. The old man is bringing his 4.9m quinie over so we hope to do a bit of fishing in the bay if the weather is ok. Just wondering if anyone has any pointers on the area they would like to share. We are both fairly new to fishing out to sea (in a boat). Any tips would be appreciated. :)

If you have a 4x4 and can beach launch your boat, Acramans creek (spelling could be way wrong not sure its even pronouced like that but its close). Is an all weather option but just as easily fished from the shore. The bay to the right of the creek mouth around the point is another launch option and the sand patches hold big whitting, never had a problem getting in or out of the creek but a mate lost his car on the beach while by himself  as the jog back to Smokey took to long. It was never really an option so know the tides. Be careful on the water as you are in a remote location as you know.Any flat in the bay should be your first stop for some razors and dont turf the shells/guts as its a great burly. Look after the hearts and cook up any left over with your whitting that night mmm yum. Most fish for me come from behind the island but plenty of flatty's move in shallow this time of year and weed edges have been the go in the past. Tommies love smokey they are always around. Hope that helps watch out for leases and shallow waterGood luck and im jealous, love that coast.

Trimpa, fishnsnags is right on the money We go there once a year and the bay has a lot of shallow water, and oyster leases. There is a channel there which you will need to locate, if you can get hold of charts would help you heaps plus get some local knowledge from general store The key is to get hold of razorfish for berley and bait, works a treat. Fish on broken ground / white patches toss in shell and guts for berley, hearts for bait and cockles onbce you run out you dont need to be in deep water, we catch fish there in 4 feet

Thanks for all the info. Only managed to fish for two days when over there as the trip was cut short coz my dad is old man is quite sick with brain cancer. Had to drive him to Ceduna hospital to be flown to Adelaide for check ups. Managed to take him out for a couple days before driving the boat back. One of the day we almost bagged out in 2 hours on whitting only 200m from the jetty. Next day the whitting seamed to be out further but he wasn't to keen, so managed to pick up half a doz squid, garfish and a million tommies. Didn't end up keeping any of the tommies as they where all pretty small. Was a good trip anyway.
