plankton 725 Posted September 22, 2013 Report Share Posted September 22, 2013 Fishing with my son today at Southport we found a little red/orange crab on the beach, his shell was about the size of a 50 cent piece. He was amongst some chunks of limestone reef that had been blown in, so perhaps a normal reef dweller, but I've never seen one before on the sand. We put him back in the water so the gulls wouldn't get him. Anyone know what kind of crab it could be? Quote Link to post Share on other sites

plankton 725 Posted September 23, 2013 Author Report Share Posted September 23, 2013 No photos unfortunately as I thought for sure it was a baby giant crab, but the shell on this crab was roundish and the giant crabs look to have a more oblong shell. Don't think it was a velvet crab either as I didn't see the velvety hairs. Should have snapped a photo on the phone. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
