Team Daiwa. 0
As the topic states im looking to buy i new reel for deeper water fishing and jigging. The two reels im looking at are the Shimano Stella STL8000SW or the Daiwa Saltiga S-Extreme S-EX 4500Z.Both are great reels but im looking for your thoughts on what to get....Cheers TD
ausea 4
Saltiga is stronger but stella is smoother to wind. Both are good reels, but I would buy the cheaper one of the two as either one will give you good run over the years. It all comes down to personal choice..Where are you intending using the reel. luke_westlakes 4
what a choice you've got on your hands!!! What i would do is toss a coin, heads stella, tails saltiga!!! lol
Ranger 48
Recently faced with a similar decision myself, and I currently have the Saltiga on layby! ;D

carps 1
wats the price on the stella dont recon there would be bugger all dif preformance wise just depends on the look you prefer or if you are a shimano or diawa nut and of course the price tag
gyroscope 0
Hands down the saltiga is better... Both are exelent reels but the proof is in the pudding.. i own 1 stella and now have 3 saltiga's. They are the ducks nuts...
Shark_Fisho 1
I would go with the Saltiga becasue ive been told the stellas arent as good as the saltiga by jiggers and bottom bashers. I would rather Daiwa over shimano any day
Guest addict
I have a saltiga and rate it as the best reel by far i have ever owned. As for the stella ,havent used one so i cant judge it
Brooksey_134 1
not that i have either but if it was me id get the saltiga! they just look so tank
ausea 4
Have you looked at the van staal.Honestly the VS is totally different than the stella or saltiga, half the weight, double in strength.True quality reel,no casting used all high grade alloy.Designed to last a life time. gyroscope 0
Have you looked at the van staal.I have seen these at the tackle show in QLD.. They are strong/tuff but just way to ruff gears.. nowhere near the sleekness an style of the saltiga's + there is alot more models of saltiga to choose from. also aftermarket daiwa and other brand accesories are avaliable to customize your reel drag washers, spools, handles etc... carps 1
had never seen them before they look like the terminator of fishing reels
Kelvin 2,200
The van staals are definitely another option. I don't think they are half the weight. All the biggest model Vanstaal, stella and saltigas all weigh over 800g.The van staals are marketed as near waterproof and used over in the US for stripped bass in the surf. They would be ideal for wading the Murray mouth and fishing for Mulloway. The main disadvantage is if you needed to service you would need to send the reel back to the US. Also left hand wind and no bail might take some getting used to.
Shark_Fisho 1
Th van staal are an incredible reels they are fully water proof u can dunk them in the waited and it wouldn't get into the reel they are air tight basically indestructible
ausea 4
You can buy van staal in left and right hand wind, with or without bail wire. http://www.fishyorkepeninsula.com/images/attachments/yh2NazIE__VSB_big.jpg[/img]
