  1. A local told me yesterday that he was talking with the organiser on the weekend and the main problem is with the larger potential exhibitors who would have provided most of the on water craft for the day. With a major company closing down recently and others putting off people due to the economic state it was just not possible to provide enough on- water items to make it a good show. Apparently a lot of smaller companies/organisations were still interested but this is not enough to justify the event going ahead.Oh, and +1 for the Waterboy idea!
  2. I don't normally use strong language but that made me say "Darn!":( Just have to go paddling that day instead.
  3. Aha! Boating Extravaganza on 21st/22nd looks like the one. Thanks Bazza, that makes it official as as I'm concerned. So, who's going?
  4. Latest I heard is mid November - still all unofficial though.Apparently the water level started to rise the day after the weir was finished, even before the pumping started.
  5. More of a question than news...........Heard a whisper that the Marina at Hindmarsh Island will have another show on later this year. Haven't seen any discussion on any forums though so really am not sure - anyone else heard anything?I gather the previous one was quite good so "IF" another is on and "IF" this rain hits down there with the new weir in place it "MAY" be a real success. Sure hope so.(Mods: Not sure if this in the right place - couldn't find a "Rumour and innuendo" forum :silly: )
  6. I have measuring marks on several of my rods and usually add some more whenever I do binding repairs. The mark and numbering are done with a gold pen and this is then covered with left over epoxy to make it last. The zero mark is close to the butt then it's a case of deciding how many marks you want and in what range. On my 8' spin rod I have the first at 20cm and each cm is marked up to 30. The 25 mark is larger than the single cm divisions. Above that it is every 5cm with the multiples of 10 being larger and numbered - similar to a ruler. The trouble with the gold pens is that the epoxy dissolv
  7. This summer I forgot to go fishing :oStarted building a kayak just before Christmas, thinking it would be ready to fish from by Feb, and next thing I know summer's gone! Just been so absorbed in this thing I've not thought about anything else."Nearly" there though - should be ready by NEXT summer :
  8. Cos I was a labrat for 25 years!Worked in an industrial laboratory and when the factory had a sample ready for analysis they would press a button which made a buzzer sound in the lab. Then I would go out to fetch and test the sample. It's a close parallel to early conditioning experiments done with rats that were trained to jump through doors when a buzzer sounded. And I don't know if the factory guys knew about those experiments but they called us labrats anyway.
  9. Note to self: In case of snake bite sit down and die quietly - it should be less unpleasant than the "treatment" ;D
  10. Some interesting stuff there - think I'll wear gaiters, leather gloves and a nice solid cod piece :icon_e_biggrin:So Ranger are you going to strap on the waterbag and join us for the day? You could offer positive identification of what we've been bitten by . Apart from that I sure could use some tuition on the SPs - still have a score of exactly zero :-[ - will think of some excuses later.Cheers, Bob
  11. ...'cos if you don't STOMP as you walk around you'll get bit by a brown snake!Went for a SP flick in the Onk this arvo and on the 3rd cast, just next to the old railway bridge I see out of the corner of my eye something moving near the water's edge. Look around and there's a full grown brown entering the water 3 to 4 metres away :icon_e_surprised:. Now I know most people always describe a large snake as 6 ft : long but I tend to understatement. I reckon this was a shade over a meter, of solid build and I would still call it "large". So, those of you heading down for the Onkastompa compa - don
