  1. To pair with my 4000 i'm grabbing the tcurve revo inshore 5-8kg (?). I think it's about 7'2" from memory and a 2 pieceAlmost bought it today but i spent way too much money so i'll save it for another week
  2. Yeah i'm slowly converting all of my trebles to singles on lures. A lot of releases are unable to be done as it gets too messy.
  3. Yeah i've got the HD Switchblades I reckon i'll drag it into the shop and hold a few hooks up and see what i like the look of.As far as size goes you never know what you're going to come across but i figure 4/0 should do the jobI just worry about the trebles bending as well as the damage they can do when removing if i release the fish.Cheers lads
  4. There was an interesting article titled "Big Blades Big Fish" in Wildcoast an issue or two ago that was quite an interesting read but only briefly covered the topic. Just need to work out what size I should use... (3/0-6/0)Looking forward to having a go on lures as its a lot more intersting than watching the rod in the holder
  5. Gday ladsLooking at mixing up snapper fishing a bit this year so I'm going to use less bait and more soft plastics and lures.I'm just wondering if i should change the hooks on big blades to singles. If so what size?Around the 1oz size... but i'll grab a few 1.5oz tooCheers
  6. Got the zillion type r. It was a bargain at the time so I couldn't say no
  7. ended up with the Raider Barra Mauler bloody nice little rod. Feels great with the reel strapped on too, very happy indeed
  8. Heard back from shimano and they've admitted it is a printing error. Figured as much
  9. Thats what i thought but the 2011 and 2012 catalogues state it is a two piece, hence the confusion. Hence the need for clarification.
  10. I was going to order it in a shop later in the week but I thought i'd give it a go on here first. I don't think i'll have the time to head into a shop so i may buy it before looking at it.I reckon moggy is on the right track. If they're catalogue is anything like their website I shouldn't be surprised
  11. I'm very confused....I've been looking at the SHIMANO TCurve Revolution Inshore Baitcast 5101 (Product Code: REVI510BC) and I am very unsure as to whether it is a one or two piece rod....The latest (not to mention previous years) catalogue state that this rod is a 2 piece rod but everywhere i've looked on the net is says it is a one piece rod (various forums etc.). Also what i found interesting was that SHIMANO label the end of their rod product codes with either 1,2,3 or 4 depending on how many pieces the rod breaks down to. So going by that theory the rod must be a one piece....Can anyone co
  12. Cheers lads.Odds are my mate will upgrade once he kills the reel. I figured the reel may struggle but my mate doesn't care how long it lasts as it was cheap. Will let him know about the drag upgrade though, sorry for the slow replySquid
  13. Hey lads I just bought the above mentioned reel for my mate as he wants to start chasing kingies and sharks. Specs say it holds 625yds of 50lb braid so the line capacity is pretty good. The specs say the drag is 7.2kg but considering the reel was in a combo and was only $129 (on special mind you, normally $189) would (can it be) it be worth upgrading the drag washers? Not sure if the stock ones will hold up to the abuse they're bound to get :)Cheers for any help lads(My mate has recently moved to pt vic and is now the chef in the pub so has PLENTY of spare time to fish)Very jealous! Thanks for
  14. Bought myself my first baitcaster the other day (100 size) that i'll be spooling with 20lb braid. So i'm looking for a two piece rod to strap it to... I'm looking for something: 1) around 6ft 2) MUST be 2 piece3) around 5-8kg4) money isn't a huge option but I'm not too keen to spend over $250ish5) to be used almost exclusively for chucking lures up to about 25gmThe only rod I can find that suits my needs so far is the Shimano Revo Inshore Barra Baitcast. I'm hunting around myself but if anyone can think of a rod that suits my needs I would be very appreciative for the suggestion :)Cheers for
  15. hey OS how do you find the tcurve? I'm buying that one next week
  16. Managed to get the eye i needed to will give it a go when i've got some time. Will chuck up some photos of the process when i'm done :)Cheers for the assistance ladsSquid
  17. haha the ring is totally smashed... half of it is missing Looks like it would destroy the line instantly! Definitely a replacement job
  18. Not too fussed if it breaks I have heard it is a lot easier to break them as they are not designed to bend that way but considering the abuse it has taken so far i'm pretty confident it will keep on running for a while! Can anyone suggest a good site to find the eye on? I reckon I need one for a surf rod i have too..
  19. I've already looked into this a bit but I figure I’ll get a few opinions on my specific situation :S I was looking at a rod in my shed today when I was giving them their monthly wipe down to get rid of dust and I've realised one of these rods is an OH rod.It is an Ugly Stick Gold 6ft 6-8kg Medium action OH rod. I bought it a few years back and only used it every so often but recently I have been using it a lot more. I now strap my ci4 4000 on it for snapper fishing and have fought and landed around 8-10 fish over 70cm (up to 1m) with no troubles what so ever… I will probably cont
  20. Has anyone on here watched many carp movies before? Got my hands on a few the other day...Some are actually quite interesting :woohoo: hopefully i'll learn a thing or twoI've got...1) Four seasons of Carp Fishing - Spring2) Four seasons of Carp Fishing - Summer3) Four seasons of Carp Fishing - Autumn4) Four seasons of Carp Fishing - Winter5) Fox Essential Guide to Carp Rigs6) Korda - Carp Tackle, Tactics & Tips***NOTE TO MODS*** Feel free to move this topic as I was supposed to put it under general fishing
  21. I understand what you mean about not having the best of everything, but when I camp the only thing that gets me down is not eating well. Having a fridge/freezer will open up lots of food possibilities! Nothing better than cooking with real food :)I've got a '91 hilux I'll drag up there so all i need is the lures and stuff. But there is a heap of smaller trips i want to do first so i can wait. Roll out the swag on the back and I'm set. Not a fan of tents they just complicate things..Hahaha if i can't find a mate to go up i'll just drag the missus along Or i'd be just as happy to make mates as
  22. Cheers for the multitude of responses lads :)I'm thinking of holding off a bit longer on the trip as I'd like to be fully prepared and have everything sorted. Also there is a fair bit of gear to buy and i'd like to buy a decent fridge/freezer so we eat well (i'm useless trying to keep ice in an esky). I intend on making this a yearly trip so money spent on gear doesn't phase me, I'll use it eventually!!!SO much to organise for a trip like this, but I love the planning aspect! PPPPP!
  23. Bloody useful response Rollas! :) Cheers heaps dude!IS that an actual question at the end? Forgot to answer it if it was... taking a single cab hilux so tonnes of room!
  24. Gday all,Currently I am in the very early planning stages with a couple of mates about heading up north is search of some barra and everything else the top end has to offer. All the fishing will be land based unless my mate decides to drag up the tinny (not to keen on that happening) and either up the Cape or around Gove. I have got all the spin gear I need but I wouldn’t mind buying myself a baitcasting outfit. I’ve read a tonne of info but I can’t seem to work out what I need.As far as casting goes obviously it doesn’t have to be miles but I have no idea of the ca
