  1. The photo that bangs8 put up of the green fish on the jetty is without a doubt a male senator wrasse (Pictilabrus laticlavius). I come across them all the time when i dive. The female of this species is red/brownish. Judging by the development of this particular fish I'd say it was still quite young. The colour of these fish is quite impressive when they are underwater
  2. Yeah definitely a zebrafish (last photo put up). Girella zebraThey come from the same family as luderick (Girella tricuspidae)
  3. FISHERPEOPLE! Was just wondering if anyone bought this and their honest opinions on it :)Cheers all!Squid
  4. Hahaha just noticed the spider webs thats pretty funny! The rod is looking nice! Good to see you're giving new life to something you already love to death! It's not something many people do anymore Just throw things out and replace....Keep up the good work and get out the MORTEIN!
  5. ah.... will have a feel in the shop. Definitely not what i though it was, cutting corners where i can $120 is a lot to drop on a knob!
  6. I reckon hey much better storage and you know they're safe!
  7. Still haven't had to use it yet but have some on standby now for times when i forget bait Has happened on WAY too many occasions..
  8. UHF! Thats exactly what i'm looking for
  9. Hahaha thats exactly how i transport mine! I have a great supply of beanies for it!
  10. Ended up with the dogfight, bit bloody heavy but a great reel! Now i'm saving up for a Saltiga 4500 Thanks for your opinions as always gents! Great to have a whole group of people to run ideas by
  11. Sorry for SLOOOOOOOOW reply but i ended up using a bimini and looping it through. Haha gave the FG a few attempts but couldn't do it for the life of me :)Will keep practicing!
  12. Thats actually not a bad idea... I've been thinking of something like a huge camera case with foam in it to store all the reels but If i can find a firm bag i'll probably grab it.
  13. I was going to get that one initailly but they have one that is a different brand (could well be jigging master) that is only $80. From memory that one is $120... Could be wrong
  14. Cheers for the responses :)Sorry i've been slow to reply but i've been a bit slack recently ;)Ended up getting the 12 footer with a saltiga surf. VERY surprised at how far it casts.... I won't push it too hard but easily smashed out 3 ounces of lead loaded as hard as i could :) Measured roughly what the cast was on google earth and managed around 130m (I knew where I was standing in a campground and casting at a reef).Completely blew everyone away (myself inclusive) but there was very slight wind on my back and i was casting from hard ground so obviously i couldn't do this on a beach. Repeat
  15. Cheers fella I'll go ahead with the plan!
  16. I totally forgot about this thread Sorry to those who responded!I reckon little drawstring bags will probably be the go for when i'm on the move. Might have to come up with something and knock it up. Have decided to look after all my new gear properly so they live in the study now in their respective boxes. Haha far far away from the disaster that is my shed! Cheers for the link of the reel bag Ranger I'm pretty keen to get one of these for when i go on trips, i hate packing them into a big bag and surrounding them with padding and praying they survive the journey!!!!!Thanks lads and lady!Sq
  17. Ah, its not the thinnest rod out there but considering its rated to 26kg drag. The blank is probably 13mm just before the grip and 5mm up at the tip. Bloody great to cast with though! Launches poppers a mile! Running 50lb on the reel and eventually i'd like to take it out to greenly/rocky but I'm moving to coffins so keen to fish off the rocks. Wouldn't mind heading up to gove eventually for a fishing trip too.Although.... i'll probably have a go at some rays and sharks at some point in timeSorry for the hijack!!
  18. Yeah doubt i'll ever target tuna. Just thought i'd throw my opinion in as carps put up a link to ray and annes with the combo and i have it.
  19. @ UHFYeah thats the rod!
  20. Hey carps I bought that dogfight/venom rod combo you put up, it's a bloody nice combo! Was actually very impressed with the rod too Haha now to catch something on it...
  21. I'm pretty sure I want to buy a knob for the handle on my saltiga surf as i'm not really a fan of the handle tha comes stock. After using my dogfight several times i have become a BIG fan of the handle and reckon i want to convert the other reel.Has anyone else ever done this before? I'm not quite sure what's involved to remove the knob and replace it... Can i just do it at home? And come to think of it would it affect waranty?Haha please save the jokes about how i want a knob :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
  22. Had a quick search through and didn't come across anything too specific on the topic. So just wondering how you lads/ladies all store your reels and how you protect them in transit to fishing spots.I'm on the market for some decent storage for all of my reels and i've got something in particular in mind. I have a deluxe neoprene daiwa cover on my dogfight which is great as it has separate storage for the handle so i'm going to get one for my 4500 surf and then a medium size one for my ci4 4000. But... I have a ci4 1000 (to be purchased in the next week or two) and a ci4 2500 that need covers wi
  23. Ah mine is the same year too. I study marine biology at uni and have found that has helped out a heap. I look very hard into those sorts of things has already helped a tonne in securing a few very nice fish. Haha when i'm not fishing I want to be reading about it!STRONGLY RECOMMEND "Natural History of Gulf St Vincent" If you're not too fussed on cost this book is brilliant! I think i paid about $120... Would not ever be without this book A very useful resource
  24. Haha so technically not squid but I had a curry night and my mate told me to make a traditional indian dessert. It basically consists of cashews and sugar. Instead of cutting it into diamond shapes as the recipe suggested I turned it into a squid!
  25. Yeah I've got that book Mine is a bit dated now but still a very good book! I think my fishing book collection is hovering around 20 at the moment. There are some pretty informative books out there!
