  1. It also comes down to what Survey Class your boat comes under... even a vessel under 3C up to 15 metres in length is only allowed to go 15 nm off the Coastlinehttp://210.247.132.180/alt-host/assets/pdf_file/0005/58406/3246235-v3A-F_465_MR_523_-_Small_Fishing_Vessel_Survey_and_Safety_Equipment_List.PDF
  2. Rollas, I couldn't put a figure on it but all the Pro's I know that fish or have fished in this Gulf trailer their boats and they're all only coxswains. Main species targeted are King George Whiting, Squid, snapper and snook and a larger vessel isn't required as we don't have the seas in this Gulf as you get in Spencers Gulf. What I was trying to say in my first post is that they can't fish legally beyond the 15 nautical mile limit so places which can at times hold mega schools of snapper like the Oil Rig and G Spot area are out of their range so us Recco's have the upper hand in this instan
  3. Howdy Rollas... I'm talking about the local Metro boats around the 20 ft mark (although I do know other kgw hookers in country areas that only have and need a 20 footer and cox to do their job) who are mostly part time Pro's that fish offshore here.... of course, in a fishing town most boats and qualifications would be greater
  4. Not quite...... as far as I know the majority of Pro's in boats around the 20 ft size would only have a Coxswains Certificate and even with a Full Coxswains Certificate they are only allowed 15 nautical miles to seaward. Whereas, we can fish anywhere we like as long as we have the full compliment of safety gear.If you see Pro's in boats around the 20 ft mark fishing the Oil Rig or the G-Spot area then chances are, they're operating in breach of their Certification unless of course they have a higher qualification such as a Master Class 5 etc. A Coxswain can not even legally leave O'Sullies R
  5. They're allowed to fish as shallow as 10 metres
  6. Has Jurassic moved again..... I have trouble keeping up with where it moves to next
  7. Most unusual catch are those bloody annoying muttonbirds that sit behind your boat off Stanvac and dive down and grab your half pillies, whole pillies, cubed pillies, butterflied pillies.... Geez! they drive me nuts somedays when they're migrating past our coastlineFirst one appears behind your boat and next minute there's 20 odd chasing your pilly bait :pinch:
  8. They'd be the IQF pillies which I'm guessing are food grade which would definitely be better quality for baitYou're probably right there AFF
  9. Feeding too many fish like mm' date=' ADBF and me Fishie  :pinch:[/quote']It's those damn piranhas on the snapper spots.. a squidhead can get devoured in 30 seconds
  10. Yep! the price of bait is getting ridiculous now.... a kilo of squidheads is now approx $13.65 and I can use anything up to 5 packs chasing snapper
  11. My weapon of choice ATM ! Ties brilliantly ' date=' good stretch' date=' great abbrasion resistance, nice and straight of the spool... top all rounder.[/quote'']Jinkai is better when fishing structure. I like Black Magic and prefer using it when fishing non structure spots as it is very supple and not very abrasive resistant as it shreds really easy
  12.  You even have "Happy time " on the VHF radio Once those happy fish start playing on my Navman radio screen I know it's going to be a good day
  13. My best fish??All caught in "Gentleman's hours" with strong tides ;) ... and you got them without my trusty downrigger and 12 pound weight
  14. It'll work along with that bait
  15. Seriously tho' as MW says... you can get big fish during the day in most areas. it just takes a few different tactics to get them on the bite. I prefer an arvo 2 metre plus tide that is ripping thru at it's strongest part. most people think around slack tide is best but I disagree
  16. They look like lunchtime fish on a slight Nor' Westerly with a falling barometer (looking at the clouds) and is at slackwater before the turn to run in  they would've bitten their nuts off in those conditionsBugger fishing at night or launching pre dawn... I fish gentleman's hours these days and get my snapper after lunch also
  17. It's easier by boat rather than tow up Brighton Road etc and you have the sou' wester behind you on the way home rather than Launch at O'Sullies and head north and smash all the way back to OS from Glenelg/Brighton
  18. The last pic you posted has a couple of average ruggers in it but they are on the outside edge of the beam away from your boat hence the faint return, they're mixed up baitfish or very small snapperChange your settings to auto fishing, turn off 50khz and run your unit in 200 khz in 2X zoom full screen and you'll find everything will look better on screen
  19. There's something wrong with your iphone...... the gps plots don't show in the jpeg file AFF
  20. Its a Red Gurnard Wadey' date=' minus its fins.Their spikes pack a very nasty punch' date=' so I'd trimmed them befor handling it anymore than I had to. They also have a very sharp spine on their gill plate too:ohmy: Im not a regular down that way, but yes they sure do get good Reds down that way ;)That one was around 40/42 cms from memory, and the Flatty actually came from West Beach I think .[/quote'']You're better off not bringing Gurnards into the boat Brenton... was only talking to some of my ex pro mates the other day about when they've been spiked and they reckon the pain is excrutiatin
  21. I went out with a hooker once... didn't catch any crabs or anything like that just got this lot......
  22. Yep! that'd work.... my wife reckons I prefer to hang out with my fishing mates... you can only talk so much fish with yer missus :whistle:I more like the adventure of a long run in my boat... there's nothing better than launching at the ramp and heading off in all directions across the horizon in your boat
  23. Why would you go to Broughton.... there's plenty of big fish in this Gulf and if you spent every day fishing out there you'd soon learn where they are
  24. You don't need to spend a squillion dollars on some wanky fishing rod I use the Penn Sportplus and ABU Garcia muscle tip rods for snapper. Abu for the skull dragging deepwater fish and the Penns for the mid to shallow water snapper
