  1. I believe it was a brand of lipless crankbait which was responsible for a full bag of 10 Bream in last years local tournament too!I believe the happy angler's exact words up on the podium when asked about his lure of choice were "Bream f***in' luv em!" {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif
  2. That's all I wanted to hear! Just a re-assurance that everything here in SA is AOK, thanks Finatic! {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifI'm not happy about having to import anything into this country (oranges from USA, cars from Europe, electrical goods from Japan, clothing from Asia, fuel from the Middle East, brides from Russia, cockles from China, etc, etc) but unfortunately sometimes we don't have a choice if'n we want these products. So long as I know they're imported legally, they aint doing Australians out of a job, they're clean, they're fairly priced and they're effective, then yep I'll also be pu
  3. Groovy! Thanks mate! I'll be interested to hear BOTH points of view on this one!
  4. Actually, I think it was Okym who did that ground work, while we were dragging our feet, and while I had my head buried in the freezer counting how many cockles I have left for the winter season! {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif
  5. OK, now I'm gonna be the bearer of bad news, and sorry if this one stirs up a hornet's nest!I've just gotten off the phone with AQIS Biologicals in Canberra, who have given me a different story!Ya can call em yaself if you have concerns: (02) 6272 4578.YES, cockles do need to be imported as "Bait for Aquatic Purposes" with an import permit required!Unfortunately, this ISN'T aways happening, and investigations are currently underway, as AQIS is aware that cockles are being imported into Australia as "tablefare" but are being illegally diverted to the "bait" market! so YES, there is further proo
  6. A green MP/Environmental Lawyer and a Marine Ecologist/Lecturer in biology, both coming in to speak on the impacts of a desal plant.I'd suggest these guys have done their homework, and they're far from chumps. No way I'd make it to Moonta on a Thursday arvo, but it'd be interesting to hear what they have to say! I'd personally like to hear more if anyone here is planning to head up there.I wont make my mind up for or against desal plants, coz like most, I simply don't know enough about them to make an educated decision, and it's guys like this green mp and marine ecologist who I'd like to give
  7. I'll jump into the NFI bin too! I've been that confused I didn't even have a guess at the last couple! {SMILIES_PATH}/embarrassed.gif
  8. Yes Ian, but not enough yet to satisfy everyone!I've been in contact with AQIS and these cockles fall into the category of "Bait for aquatic purposes".An import permit must be applied for under this category, and a risk assesment is performed by "AQIS - Canberra Biologicals".So YES, it seems for them to be here in use, strict procedures have been set down and performed with all our worries allayed.I still need to get in contact with Canberra Biologicals for more info for ya though, so then I'd also be able to tell ya what risks are deemed, if any, or what procedure/treatment is performed to di
  9. Ian, pm coming in regards to contact details.
  10. It's hard mate! It's a closed circuit video, so's I can watch what's happening on my screen, but to record it I'd have to plug a video camera into the circuit. I don't have a video camera, I wouldn't know how to load it onto the web, and I don't have broadband to even see it myself if I could work out how to get it onto the net.The only other option would be to use a digital camera to take a still photo of the screen, but I don't think the quality of that would be too good.there is a very good video made locally around Adelaide though called Whiting Down Under! It's quite a few years old now,
  11. I carry an underwater camera on the boat for some trips, so's I can check out what's down there once I'm anchored up.Yes I've seen small pickers at my bait. Don't ask me how they manage to avoid the point on the hook though, coz I've still got no idea.
  12. Good tip Mick! Even though I'm a creature of habit who's been using a paternoster for years, I might actually give that one a go if ever I can drag myself away from chasin Bream in the estuary!
  13. I'll go along with that! Well, actually, I only really know that Pt Lincoln KG's go mad for em!
  14. That's correct Shane! The deeper you go, the more colours drop out of the spectrum. Red is actually the first colour to go at around 10m (30 feet)! It doesn't disappear though, instead it just appears grey/black! http://www.seahorseworld.com.au/pdf/Tam ... itants.pdf
  15. Exactly the sorta comments which everyone has been trying to avoid! Good effort! {SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gifIf you wanna actually join a topic on Whiting all input is welcome! If you just wanna be Mr Sooky-lala and continue with this ridiculous bullsh*t and smart *rsed comments, I've recently started a topic for "whinging" in the off topic forum. Maybe you'd be happier having ya sook there while we discuss fishing.Guess I'll remember to look forward to more of ya stupid games in any future topics I start!
  16. I see they're also available in 40cm 5.0g.I'm interested in the two tow points, but I notice they don't even make mention of that in their blurb!
  17. I see they also come in 40mm and 5.0g {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif
  18. Come on mate, you don't still tell ya missus how much you're spending do ya? Where's ya committment? {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gifMy biggest fear is dying and then having my missus sell my fishing tackle for the amount I TOLD her I paid for it! {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif
  19. I was out fishing on Sunday and forgot to set the VCR!Got home to find the missus had taped it for me, and I didn't even ask her! {SMILIES_PATH}/shocked.gifMakes me a bit suspicious though, I recon she wants something! Hmmm, our aniversary is coming up in a few days! {SMILIES_PATH}/undecided.gif
  20. OK, you've tweaked my interest! Stick a coupla them green one's away for me!Outta interest, how much do they weigh, bout 3 or 4 gram?
  21. Dry casting? OF COURSE! I've been doing a fair bit of Bream spinning wiv lures and plastics, so yeah, I've been dry casting.........................into mangroves, onto rock walls, into pylons, around snags, under...........................!!! {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gifSeriously though, no, all my casting is done over water, but I dont do a lot of beach fishing where I'm looking for long distance casts to reach some of them gutters either. If you ARE looking to perfect techniques for distance casting and magging a reel for long distance casting, I can put you in contact with a guy interstate wh
  22. Thanks for the input guys! Seems many of you are much like myself! Ya don't know/aren't sure if it helps, but use them anyway! And hey, what's wrong wiv havin a few pretty beads floatin around in the tacklebox? If it's a quiet day I can use em to plait my hair or pimp my ride! {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif Good advice BB! Most of my Whiting fishing IS done in fairly shallow water (12-65') around the metro area. I'm aware of the colours in the spectrum fading as water depth increases, but I'm actually still debating how "fish" perceive colour/contrast. ie: do they actually see colours as we do,
  23. Seems there's quite a few here who target KG Whiting, so I'd like to discuss targetting this species. For donkey's years now, I've been using little red beads just above my hooks, or purchasing the pre-tied hooks with the red beads on the trace line.It was explained to me many years ago that these red beads act as an added attractant, and I've been using them ever since. In fact, I've been doing it for so long, I couldn't even tell ya if it DOES actually increase ya catch rate, but being a creature of habit, I still persist with it.Oddly enough a friend of mine from Victoria has been using green
  24. That's just something for ya's to reflect upon and laugh about over a few drinks, when ya sit back and recall all ya past fishing trips! {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifJust in case though, maybe ya better keep the number for the flyin doctor programmed into ya phone! {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gifDoes anyone know the number for "000?" {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif
  25. Just on the subject of flathead, we all know how sharp the gill rakers and spines are on em, how easy it is to get cut by em, how painful these cuts can be, and how they persist in bleeding, because of the toxins involved.I don't know if it's common knowledge or not, or even if you guys consider it an old wives tale, but it's been suggested that rubbing the cut on the fishes belly helps.I considered this an old wives tale until I actually tried it, and it does have a soothing effect! Something to do with the slime, but I'm still not sure what!Just thought it might interest you if you weren't a
