  1. Mate, I believe you're targetting Bream in West Lakes! For this Maybe consider a little Daiwa Pixy (if ya can still get ya hands on one), as you'll find it's much much better at casting the really lightweight lures.
  2. North Bear, I've even stuck a simple recipe up for ya, just in case ya get TOO MANY! {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gif
  3. A lot of talk about cockles at the moment, so I thought I'd bung this one up. Really simple, and very tasty! If ya haven't tried cockles before, this one might just convert ya!The really important part is to make sure your cockles are properly purged, or it's gonna be like chewing on a sand pit!Stick em into fresh clean seawater, in an esky or container, but on a rack to suspend them up off the bottom. Alternatively, stick em in an onion bag suspended up off the bottom.Leave them in a cool place for around 18 hours to spit out all the sand! The only other ingredients you'll need is some finely
  4. I hear they're a bit thin on the ground at Goolwa recently, but I was talking about MUD cockles earlier in another thread.Section bank and/or Pt Gawler northwards! Have a dig around and see what ya come up wiv! These one's are 3.0cm min, and a bag limit of 300! Happy hunting! {SMILIES_PATH}/wink.gifNormally, for cockles in numbers Goolwa is ya best bet. Cockle season is from November to May. For Goolwa cockles, 3.5cm minimum, and 600 per person. If you've never dug cockles before, it's pretty simple. Look for little "V"s in the sand/surf as the water recedes, and dig down a few inches. Coz it'
  5. As mentioned, I really dont know that much about ANSA, so I'm happy to stand corrected. I think what's important here is what ANSA do, and how they go about doing it.
  6. Hmm, seems I was close..............but no cigar! {SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gifI just had a look through that link (national history). Founded in Cairns Feb 1967. In SA Sept 2001.
  7. For the first 40 odd years of my life, I've never so much as touched a lure!I was brought up as a bait fisherman, and a bait fisherman I stayed!..............until a coupla years back! The big craze was soft plastics and C&R fishing with lures, so I thought I'd better start givin this stuff a go, or I'd be left behind.I bought a boat that I could also kit out wiv a leccy and livewell, I spent umpteen thousand dollars on little graphire rods, expensive little reels, braided lines, and buckets of hard bodied lures and rubber thingamebobs!I still have a hellishly hard time catching QUALITY fis
  8. I don't know a lot about it!It's our national sportsfishing association. It's been around for umpteen years, and about ten years in SA.I believe ANSA clubs, as well as offering sportfishing recognition for all types of fishing, are also involved in tagging programmes, promoting sustainable fishing practices, and promoting recreational fishing as a sport in this country.Actually, now that ya come to mention it, I recon I know very little about ANSA, and I wouldn't mind you explaining a bit more about it.
  9. Brenton, don't forget that ours are a different species to east coast bream, and ours are much more timid by comparison.
  10. The Port's being put under a lot more pressure, as more and more of us wise up to this lure fishing, and big fish didn't get big by being stupid!I firmly believe that the fish get used to seeing our presentations, and from time to time you need a change, to throw something different at them. Honestly, how many times does a fish have to bite a Gulp worm, Berkeley Powerbait or Squidgy Wriggler, before it knows that this thing just aint edible, and it stings! It's why WE have to spend a small fortune to make sure our kit bag contains every known size, shape, colour and design of plastic. Then whe
  11. Congratulations guys! Persistence pays off, and that'll be the tastiest Mully you'll ever eat! ;D
  12. Well I've taken ya tip, and I've gotten myself a silly lucky hat. I noticed that you have a lead rope on ya Carp, and I was just wondering if you walk him down at the lake often, and do ya carry a lil baggy wiv ya to pick up the carp doodoo? Also, is it considered lucky if a fish poo's on ya (like a bird), and is THAT why ya take ya Carp wiv ya? {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gifPS: Luv ya work! {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif
  13. Maybe that's another post topic! What do we all find important info for our diary records?
  14. I gotta say, I don't really have too many highly secretive, hush hush, murder ya grandmother, sacred, never to be spoken fishing marks!I use another method, and I'd like to share that wiv ya, coz it's also good for anyone new to boating, to start aquiring a few spots of their own.I just buy one of thise cheap books on GPS marks, that we all know are pretty inaccurate, and supply all the very well known marks that cop a hammering constanly.I enter all the relevant marks for an area into my plotter, and I give them a name. When I neme them though, I always make sure the name ends with a "B". ie:
  15. Geez, tough audience! And I liked that shirt! {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif
  16. Even though it's not on our catch list, I personally believe Atlantic Salmon to be one of the finest seafoods available, and I'll support the seafood industry to purchase this stuff for my table! Here's one of my all time favourite recipes, and it's a pretty simple one, that's great for the BBQ too!Atlantic Salmon & MangoServes 2Atlantic Salmon boneless fillets (2)Mangoes (1)2 red chiliesBrown sugarZest and Juice 2 limes2 Tblspn honeySkin side down, sprinkle fillets with brown sugar, lime juice and zest.Cut cheeks off mango, baste with finely sliced chili, brown sugar, lime juice and honey.
  17. Fred, chilli and lime are made (compliment) for each other. I think I may be much like yaself, and enjoy a bit of spice, flavour and/or bite to my food! I'm big on the asian style, coz they strike a balance on flavours (sour, sweet, salt, tart) and textures with their cooking. The thing with cooking is knowing what goes well together. Things like tomato and basil. Garlic and onion. Chili, lime, ginger, coriander, lemongrass.Once you've got that sorted, know what ya like, and what compliments the other ingredients, cooking becomes very simple, and it's time to throw away the recipe and experimen
  18. Velly intellesting! I never thought I'd see the day we'd be importing cockles from China!I've got a question though! What about our local "mud" cockles [i:27daneap]Katalysia[/i:27daneap] as a ready source of bait, instead of imported goods? There's a bag limit of 300 p/p on these. They can be collected from the section bank or northern areas, and I "believe" ya can buy sacks of them at the Torrens Island market! As for chocolate.......well, it's Cadbury (Australian made) Dairy Milk, or it just.......AIN'T! {SMILIES_PATH}/tongue.gif
  19. We set off out wide into the brineyto do a little trolling, and see just what was around today. It didn't take long for the first hookup, but wouldn't ya know it, just Garfish again! It seemed the lil buggers were everywhere!Funny lookin Gar too! They all taste the same when you've got a good cook though! It's a hard life being a fisherman, but I guess there's always tomorrow to try again!! {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif
  20. At the boat ramp, it was decision time for me. Do I use the kayak todayor the runabout?Nah bugger it. Could get a little rough out there today, so I'll use something a lil bigger! So after sacrificing my breakfast in the name of burley, it seems the fish might just turn it on for us today! To be continued...............
  21. I found myself with a little time up my sleeve, so after slaving it out on the weekly grind, I decided it was a good chance for a little "ME" time!As the planets were in alignment, and under my therapist's kind instruction, another fishing trip was on the cards! So I threw on my trusty fishing togsRemembering to take my hat (thanks for that recent tip Brenton). After a quick morning dip, I left home for an early start to another day's fishing.I said goodbye to the missus, who was already shopping for some fresh ingredients to accompany my catch. My trusty transport was at the readyBut then I dec

  23. Here ya go!By the way, these are not my photo's! They are plagiarised from a fellow angler! Unfortunately, I cannot remember his name to give him credit for the photography, but if anyone here can remember who it was, can ya bung his name on here please!
  24. Finatic, it's too late! It seems half the members here ARE from those other places! Don't worry too much though, coz these are "good guys" who're interested in fishing! Ya may well find an influx of members may be on the way here soon though!I've actually been a mamber here for quite some time (since we first discussed the site) but I just haven't been posting here, coz I've had too many sites to check in on, and not enough hours in the day.Goat herder, you have this all wrong! Ya see, Mr & Mrs Ranger are a team! Mrs Ranger handles production, and Mr Ranger tackles the difficult tasks of:
  25. Well, now that the finer details are sorted, I'd better check the weekend weather to gets me a few crabs! One further question though: Who was the first person to EVER pull a crab outta the water and think to himself "I dunno what this thing is, but I'm gonna eat it?"That was either one very brave, or very hungry person! {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifNow that I've stolen YOUR recipe, I guess I'd better share one of mine!Coconut chilli crabServes 4Preparation 20 minutesCooking 25 minutes4 raw blue swimmer crabs2 tablespoons oil4 garlic cloves, crushed1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger3 red chillies, cho
