1. why not head down south oneday go fishing next to the commercial road bridge( nice flat carpark right next to the water) at port noarlunga(onkaparinga river) then when little one gets sick of fishing after 3 minutes you can go to the adventure playground just across the road 30 seconds away........get hungry get a pie from becks bakehouse also couple hundred metres up road in the porties townshipgood time had by all !

2. duel mag minnow in blue pilchard goes pretty well.....but I think using plastics or halco twists is alot cheaper and probably just as effective. the duel lures are great but like $20 a pop and you get real pissed off if you snag one on the rocks!some days they wont take anything and other days they are just in a frenzy and will go anything.....can be annoying when you see 1000 salmon swim past your lure and they wont touch anything you throw at em. Thank god they arent as hard to catch as bream on lures....I would have given up by now, the salmon trout most times are pretty easy to catch.

3. I like braid as I find you dont have to strike the hell out of it when hooking up.....just a slight lift is usually enough.....alot better feel, recommend it.I dont muck around with light braid though....too many knots,10 lb plus for me and I tie the leader on with double uni. Also use vanish leader its great stuff. The only thing I wouldnt use it for is surf fishing when you are trying to cast out a big chunk of squid or a couple of pillies and some lead......it will cut up your fingers when casting the heavy weight.Stay with mono on surf reel unless you only throwing around lures for salmon etc.

4. Picked up this monster the other night...So....whats your tried & tested recipes ? & what would you leave for the KGW's ?

geezus.....that thing couldve given the queen mary 2 a couple of coats of gloss black, hope you landed it alright. very messy those buggers lolbtw i reckon the smaller ones are good eating.
5. For small ones like that try berleying with heaps of finely chopped pilly bits' date=' downsize your tackle to 3kg or so and drift down unweighted pilly bits the size of your berley on about a size 4-6 octopus style hook. Finesse when they're finicky! :fishing:[/quote']not a bad 1 hand lift on that kingy in ya pic just quietly ;)
6. kkThat's why I posed the original question to Murphysegg as to how "serious" he/she wanted to get' date=' as I wasn't sure what the proposed use would likely be. Your point on ground clearance is taken, but the old rule about driving within the capabilities of both yourself AND your vehicle still applies. Many years ago I took my Forester (the first model to come out) through Litchfield NP in the Territory into the "Lost City" (very carefully, I should add!) and surprised the hell out of a few other people running around in Troopies and Cruisers. I have also heard of a Forester towing a small 'van over "Big Red" in the Simpson.Having said all that, I'm now running around in an NS Pajero, as no Subie I'm aware of is going to lug around a 2 tonne caravan.!It's all "horses for courses"...Cheersaf ;)[/quote']no worries mate.....hey I wouldnt mind taking my forester through litchfield Ive been there 3 times.....awesome!
7. Dunno how "serious" you want to get with your proposed 4WD' date=' Murphysegg...However, you might be surprised how far a Subaru Forester with manual gearbox and low range can get you. You could pick up an earlier model for within the price range you mentioned, and the fuel bill for running around town won't kill you either.Cheersaf B)[/quote']I would be worried about ground clearance with my forester, it easily handles going onto local beaches such as moana, sellicks etc (but then again so does a normal sedan most of the time)it can drive on soft sand but, when we went to salt creek in feb this year, we came across some pretty deep sand, big grooves, drop offs an shell grit piles, good thing we were in Millsys navara diesel no probs(out of your selected price range though over 30k)also Southie the Bangas patrol handled it pretty good too and he had a shitload of gear and people in his rig.My point though is you will need plenty of ground clearance in places like salt creek get a serious 4WD not an AWD. My forester is 2.5L turbo and has awesome power to weight ratio better than anything listed but that will be no good to you when you are in the deep stuff. About all it is good for is dragging off supercar wannabe's at the lights.....
8. I was there yesterday and what a waste of money... I thought it was a joke the prices of everything was a joke.. They need more tackle shops in there but i could think of how much it would cost to put a stand in there..I should have just gone fishing.. :fishing::fishing: :f . PS I think the only good thing about the show was the free sunday mail. But wait that cost $15 it was the most expensive paper i ever bought.. :(

FREE sunday mail....I didnt see that, damn!.......oh well live and learn  ps show was pretty average and thats being nice
9. The whole squid rod thing.....I havent tried one but, I think that squid are so abundant here in SA that it doesnt warrant spending big bucks on specialised squid rod and reel, when alot of the time you can go and catch them quite easily on a cheap set up with cheapo 5 for $10 squid jigs in the bargain bin at ya local tackle store. The japanese are so into squidding and I think there are nowhere near as much squid per capita over there as there is here  , that it is big business ovver there to get any edge that they can, but as I have already said, there is oodles of squid here and not as much competition for it in comparison.Happy squidding!
