duel mag minnow in blue pilchard goes pretty well.....but I think using plastics or halco twists is alot cheaper and probably just as effective. the duel lures are great but like $20 a pop and you get real pissed off if you snag one on the rocks!some days they wont take anything and other days they are just in a frenzy and will go anything.....can be annoying when you see 1000 salmon swim past your lure and they wont touch anything you throw at em. Thank god they arent as hard to catch as bream on lures....I would have given up by now, the salmon trout most times are pretty easy to catch.

thanks guys, we plan to go back next year! my highlight was getting my fish taken by what felt like quite a decent sized shark which after taking quite abit of line snapped me off, would have loved to seen it.

I like braid as I find you dont have to strike the hell out of it when hooking up.....just a slight lift is usually enough.....alot better feel, recommend it.I dont muck around with light braid though....too many knots,10 lb plus for me and I tie the leader on with double uni. Also use vanish leader its great stuff. The only thing I wouldnt use it for is surf fishing when you are trying to cast out a big chunk of squid or a couple of pillies and some lead......it will cut up your fingers when casting the heavy weight.Stay with mono on surf reel unless you only throwing around lures for salmon e

that doesnt mean i dont want a special squid rod.....I love new fishing toys :f (just dont want to paythat much

The whole squid rod thing.....I havent tried one but, I think that squid are so abundant here in SA that it doesnt warrant spending big bucks on specialised squid rod and reel, when alot of the time you can go and catch them quite easily on a cheap set up with cheapo 5 for $10 squid jigs in the bargain bin at ya local tackle store. The japanese are so into squidding and I think there are nowhere near as much squid per capita over there as there is here , that it is big business ovver there to get any edge that they can, but as I have already said, there is oodles of squid here and not as muc
