  1. A Notice to Mariners regarding the beacons in the Barker and Angus Inlets was issued on 7th August at the following link http://dpti.sa.gov.au/news?a=335860 Short version is some the beacons in both areas have been relocated and or upgraded. Probably no big deal but if you fish or travel through the area on a regular basis, particularly at night, it may be wise to keep an eye out for a while. Like This Quote MultiQuote Edit

  3. As you may or may not know,a mini wind turbine trial has been set up at West Beach in the wash down bay area.Part of that trial requires wind speed and direction to be recorded,so a weather vane was installed in the trailer park area.Well guess what, that wind speed and direction data is now live on the internet for all to see.The data is fairly close to real time and gives wind speed, direction, temperature and air pressure.Follow the instructions below to find the data;Go to http://www.saminiwindtrial.com.au/then go to the page headed "About the Trial" and scroll to the bottom of the page.Have
  4. Thanks for the vote of confidence 4THA.Hobie have always done a great effort at boat show's.
  5. Just a reminder that Boat Show starts on Thursday. If you have ever had the slightest curiosity to try kayak fishing, get along and see all the Hobie kayaks in the one place at the one time. This is the best display of kayaks you will ever see in Adelaide and there will be factory representatives there to discuss any issues you mave have and offer the best advice on which Hobie suits your needs. The Hobie display won "Best Stand" at the Melbourne Boat Show,so it is a definite must see.I will be there Friday night from 5pm to 8pm,see you there. There will be show only specials available that will m
  6. That is exactly what I mean. With that size of customer base, retail margins can be as low as 3% net profit,a figure which we can never hope to achieve in Australia.
  7. This link has an insight into Rec boating statistics in the US.Have a look at the figures and you will see why US boating equipment and fishing tackle is dirt cheap compared to Oz.There participation and expenditure figures are astounding.Compare the number of rec boaties to the total Australian population. With those figures you can make next to nothing per item and still stay in business!http://www.marinebusiness.com.au/news/nmma-releases-recreational-boating-statistical-abstract
  8. Opening hours have now been extended to 8pm on both Friday and Saturday.
  9. We would like to know who else will be there as well. The BIASA and Kym Jones Exhibitions who are running the show are both a bit slow at putting details on the web site.
  10. The public response should be good, providing the BIASA and the new show operator do some pretty big advertising and SOON,the show is only about six weeks away!
  11. For those who have not heard yet, which based on the lack of promotion would be most of you,the 2011 Adelaide Boat Show will be back at Wayville .The timing has also changed with years show being held from Thursday 23 June to Sunday 26 June.Opening times will be 10am to 6pm every day. From the boat show website, admission will be $15 per person with parking $6 per car.The following link has more detailswww.adelaideboatshow.com.au
  12. The other point that most people overlook when "talking" about overseas internet pricing is sales volume.Fishing tackle and marine electronics sales in the US are in the tens of BILLIONS of dollars,in Australiai it is in the tens of MILLIONS of dollars.Basic maths tells you that turnover in the billions allows for lower markups and lower profit margins compared to turnover in the millions.Yes prices in the US can be significantly lower than in Oz,but the target sales markets are extremely different.Look at this way,the total number of fisho's,boaties etc in the US is probably GREATER than the
  13. Just a reminder that as from today,1st June 2010,you will need an inshore flare kit on your boat in all waters of the state other than protected (inland)waters. That means as soon as your boat hits the water at any ramp you MUST HAVE FLARES onboard to be legal, regardless of where you are.The following link has more details, specifically pages 30 to 34;www.transport.sa.gov.au/pdfs/personal_tr...book_2010_Ch2pt1.pdf
  14. As far as I know, the recreational cockle season will open on 1st November as usual, the commercial season will remain closed until 1st December or later.
