  1. Hi All,Heading up to Kingston OM this weekend.can anybody let me know how the river flows are at the mo?I have loooked on a few sites a and they give me figures on flow rates but that means nothing to me.Is the river swollen? Kayakable? baitfishable? Swimmable? Not that we would be swimming this time of year, but it would give me some idea of the flow.Taking kids and concerned bout water safety. They are good swimmers but i have seen the Murray in full flow and it's scary! lolAny feedback is appreciated :-)

  2. I have been eyeing up the soft plastics’ containers in BigW. Particularly the squidgee ones with the large diameter yellow lid.The containers are labelled as saltwater and i can see no stock of freshwater (assuming that there is a freshwater container). They are on the shelf for well under $20.I can identify that the plastics in the container are probably more suited to the salt. Not sure about the juice though. I am looking for some feedback on the whether there are differences in the juice in the saltwater and freshwater containers(if available). Willing to take the hit on the plastics if the juice is good as I’m sure I can tempt a spotted carp (Oncorhynchus mykiss) on anything long and wriggly ;) Appreciate any feedback.Cheers Mango :)

  3. I found the article a little confusing until i got to the nitty gritty science reference...it all made so much more sense...'Finding Nemo'.....what more credibility does an article require!!??....and so accuratly targetted at the readers' demographic...

  4. Red-Devil,If i may. I wish to indulge in some of my own thoughts too:-)I fished a lot of course fishing matches on the Murray and lakes (Bonney, Albert & Alexandrina) during the early 90's through to the late 90s.As we fished for a total bag weight, naturally the species targeted was, in the main, carp as they are abundant.Following the floods in the early and mid 90s the carp population was noticeably reduced in the later 90s as was reflected in bag weights. We even saw greater numbers of juvenile Golden Perch and Cod taking baits such as shrimp when varying baits. Not so much the Silvers though in my experience.A couple of theories here;1- Flooding washed the carp downstream and many out of the mouth (I have seen evidence of this on Sugars beach recently, but to no great extent).2- The floods afforded natives access the natural floodplains promoting breeding followed by the subsequent generation knocking off many carp fry.In my opinion I think a little of both of the above, with a heavy slant towards natives breeding during flooding and the offspring knocking off carp fry.Either way. The point I am making is, that i am a believer that water flows are a major contributor to the success of natives. The cod included. The coming years will hopefully ring true to this after the recent high water levels.Cheers Neil

  5. Caught this great bream using a simple waggler rig.Two #4 split shot either side of the float to allow for adjustment of depth as the tide came in.Size 12 hook 5 foot below float in about 8 foot of water no spilt shot down the line at all.Slither of bonito for bait. For scaling, the waggler (float) is 34cm long.

  6. Brenton....you may be on to something here with the cricket theme.the whippet died as a result of one of the revered sacred willows falling from the river bank. Not sure if it was 'one too many' cricket bats being cut from the west side of the tree or a jet skiier washing carp up to gnaw on the roots ;-)

  7. Brenton....let's get a few things straight here mate...1. I wasn't poaching, how could i have been. I still have the receipts to show that my bicycle was actually in for repair at the time (it had thrown a rear mudguard).2. I don't own a Whippet.. i did however try (being a typical englishman as a previous post suggested) to introduce a whippet to the murray system unsuccessfully as it drowned. If i had been more successful, we may today, have been contemplating the Murray Darling Basin whippet infestation as opposed to the carp .....;-)
