  1. pretty precise info there. Good work fellas.
  2. I thought it was quite a unique idea. If you can convince the lure manufacturers to supply pics and details each time a new lure is release then they get "advertising" and we get an A - Z on lures (Australian and or International?) Update and management would be a nightmare.....Woody I have a couple of ides like that but more on what you own and what to use for a given situation. Cheers
  3. The guy on the kayak is playing with a little pup, would be stuffed if he actually landed something over 6 ft.
  4. Branzino - When the fish are shut down mate it does not matter where you are. Have been on a reef 25okays off the Queensland coast and still had days where I should have fished from the mother boat instead of the dory. The fish are there, they are just not hitting any baits and sometimes even livies. Then 2 days later you almost have the fish jumping into the boat.Reefs shutdown just like everywhere else and the best thing to do when its like that is chuck the mask and fins on and grab the gun and plug a few to have something to do. One thing I would recommend you do before going, go and buy a

Fix the spool to something like a desk or table. I have a bolt with a washer on both ends and a spring and wing nut so I can put the bolt through the table, through the spool then put the washer/spring on with the wing nut to keep the tension. If you cant do something similar drop the spool into a bucket of fresh water then try wrapping the line around a rag a couple of times and winding with that pressure. Be careful because it will slice and cut through the rag and any fingers in it.
  6. Not always but most times tuna will push a bait school upwind or into the waves. If you "do" see a school of jumping Tuna go upwind 500 meters or so in a line with the school and turn the motor off and drift down to them. Even if you cant see them jumping, cast the sluggs out and count to 10 and wind like hell. Any quality 2500 reel with good braid on it on a good plastics rod will do. Thats if you "see" them...
  7. Maybe they followed the trawlers in after they push all the by catch back in off the trays....
  8. Well if its in the paper it must be true........Extract from todays paper - Good sized tuna are being caught at Outer Harbour.
  9. Not as big as Nanmans, but neither is my wife!Caught on a popper out in the Whitsundays between two islands where the current fairly rips, Dangerous Passage.Only around 20 -25kg. Couldnt stop that smile all day..
  10. Caught on a livie waiting for the ferry in Shute Harbour to go to Hamo. There are stories up there of them being called Toe Fish because when your putting your boat in on the ramp they have come up and taken chunks out of people's feet. True story..
  11. On a livey, and a new rod I had just built for the trip up. Great fun, my favourite catch & release fish.
  12. Bleed the Snook as soon as its caught and place in a slurry. Gut and scale it and chop it into sections like your cutting a sausage. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and olive oil and cook on the BBQ just turning over. When they are cooked you get two sections of great meat and the bone just lifts out.Snook over 2 -3 days and not bled, dont taste half as good. They go all mushy.I dont mind Gar but would rather something else.Blue Eye Trevella is my favourite, followed by Maori Wrasse which are now protected, then Barramundi Cod which are the same. Spanish Mack is tasty..
  13. As a ex chef I find Highfly's comments explain it all.I like everything out of the ocean but some need to be done on the day. Have found that Snook caught on the day and bled is actually one of my favourites. I actually find whiting boring. No texture, plain..Love shellfish, squid and Occy. Actually one thing I have had I didnt like was Sea Urchin roe. Mate of mine Chew gave me some a couple of years back. Smelly socks come to mind..We are hunting, sometimes on the water sometimes in it so make the most of your success.Fishie, I have been getting some help from an asian mate of mine in Sushimi
  14. Just why Pistol and trigger Grips were invented.
  15. Or when you get reefed in the roots and you know its only a couple of meters under the water but the tackleback cant get through the roots. Do I jump in and get it....Or not.
  16. Nice mate, S.A Grand Slam! What was the best achievement? The Snapper , Mully or the Kingie?
  17. I understand totally...and fortunately so does my wife which makes it a lot easier..
  18. Don't let fear hold you back Fishie, I am sure you have got plenty of other pics scanned in your p.c waiting to show the world. How about some of the area back then as well?As for the Pygmy LJ's, I guess these are the patches I am seeing on the sounder out in the Gulf. I find they move around a fair bit so they are not just hanging off the bottom sitting in the current against structure. Every time I turn around and go back over a patch it might take me two or three go's to find them again. So anchoring on them is not an option.
  19. I thought the undersize fish were farmed hence the size being smaller to get them to market sooner. Plate Size.Highfly is that still based on boat size or just additional logged hours? Fishie, must have been pretty good back in them days. Can I ask if you have on historical pictures and clippings you would like to share showing how good it was back then?Boyington, you need to buy a bigger boat!
  20. How many Pro boats work out of Metro Fishie? Just curious to what the size of the fleet is because if they are under 20ft then most would be trailered. Are there any KGW liners in this Gulf?
  21. Both are nice fish...Johns arms are bent in the pic so he is not holding it out "that" far...At least they would have pulled a bit of backing off the reels.Great pics Fishnuts, I would expect to see something like that in Flylife.
  22. Most guys I knew were Class 5. Only Deckies were Coxs and once they had the hours they would go to Class 5 asap. Even my mother is a class 5!I would have thought most Pro boats were bigger than 20ft as well? Most of the liners I have seen were 30+I would keep an eye on the prawn Industry, for the regulation that goes into it when its a PRO only resource if it fails then you know the Gov is not doing it right.
