  1. Hmmm............I'm afraid it's convinced me to just BUY flies instead! :-\I'm not really interested in paying exorbitant prices for Scimtar Horned Oryx scrotum hair, or Speckled Kite anus feathers, and then trying to arrange it into something which looks appealing to a fish.......sorry!I have no issue with you guys who DO go to the time and effort with all this, but maybe I'm not really cut out for this whole fly thing! :-[ Well your keeping me amused in the short time I can sit and read my monitor .
  2. thanks guys at the moment I can sit at this comp for a short while before I need to move .The Panadol Forte worked for short while last night so I got more sleep than the rest of the week.Next week will be the big test.I hate the specialists they all seem up themselves.Hopefully I wont need one .Ahh the joys of being over 45 .

Ok guys this may just be for a week or two(fingers crossed and I'm back catching and posting soon) but I am just having an injury break. Those that know me know I fish every weekend Public holiday or when on AL etc etc.But last Saturday's quick flick at West lakes ended in me leaving the water and having knee pain (nothing new for me I know)at the back of my knee.Since then I havent slept well walking is getting slower sitting is hell and my knee cap started moving on its own .So a quick trip to the quack this morning and he thinks I have damaged my cartlidge. This could all be over by next wee

  14. I went down this morning I didnt stay long .I should have taken my waders was it cold with a strong wind a blowing.Fish were jumping and I lost 2 Bream all in a space of 15 minutes to 30 minutes .Then I noticed the fly that was doing all the damage was itself damaged .Swapped it a few more jumps then DEAD nothing. So feeling the cold I went home .
  15. Took me ages to catch and land something this morning.Fish weren't interested .Then I had a school of something go past .I was wading and couldn't tell what they were, except I kept the popper fly moving and the fish were a jumping at my fly but nothing hit the fly.took a break and chatted with some council workers .thought I'll head home soon not much happening.Went back in the water the wind had picked up and for a short while the Bream got hungry .Had a few jumps at my fly and then wham bam this little bream slightly larger than Mondays was putting up a great fighting effort .And this one of
  16. I always like to listen to others you never know when u may learn somethingCheers
  17. I have read about earpluggs on fly forums they dont seem to work very wellBunnings and mitre 10 sell Foam for 40 odd cents a metre just right for popper fliesAnd spotlight sell different coloured sticks in packs
  18. From what I have been reading the bream grab a popper thats not moving. The small Bream above grabbed the small popper I tied while it was moving, trying to entice a snook .And I know about the ripples seen some big ones behind the odd fly .Would enjoy seeing more guys casting a fly at the lake.Besides myself and the yak patrol ;DCheers
  19. done some research and found a europen site with some infohttp://globalflyfisher.com/patterns/prop_popper/Will check out spotlight for some coloured foam.cheers
  20. well back down to earth this morning .Another zero day .IMHO not enough surface movement or perhaps the heat.I did have a smallish garfish mouthing my fly so i suppose thats one thing. So now some research on how to get a Garfish to take a popper :fishing:Cheers
  21. MMM interesting .Was that Wading/walking or in your Yak.I have a feeling you guys clean up in yaks and boats which is a good thing.then again 25 fish is not a bad day either JW.Honesty I tend to get more Bream jumping behind my popper flies on windy days (not sure with the gurgler havent fished with it as much). And today was not going to be a fish day .Until I started chasing the Snook/Garfish schools .that tiny bream fell to a moving fly not the stationary fly .which I have read is the best way to catch bream on a popper. All I know is what I have found when I have been out flicking .And of co
  22. The biggest clue to using a surface fly or in my case a popper fly is the surface of the water. When its dead calm nothing get some wind waves etc then they wake up.And I didnt get that little fella on a dead still fly .I was moving it in an attempt to tempt the snook .But a fish is a fish .and its better cause i tied the fly.
  23. Well you should we have spoken near that tree on a few occasions .But that area is not how it was back then.
