Well played Moggy. S&H beanie is warm and toasty in this weather, especially when it gets down to 2 degrees like it did the other night. And the S&H caps are lucky, just not in West Lakes at the moment. A good bit of kit there mate, hope you enjoy your prize.

I'm bloody hopeless at games like this. Luckily I already have a S&H cap and beanie. Good luck to the winner, looks like some good kit. I'm going to go sit in the corner and sulk now.......

No callop in there, though the silvers move through in the currents from the river heading to the lake. Callop seem to be in the main river more, not so much backwaters, but the silvers move through in schools.. Fat cats attack the tiger worms mainly towards sunset in there, then the yabbies start marching. Only takes a couple of hours with 2 nets each to get a feed. Lemon pepper barbecued yabby......

Both lures or bait work just as well as each other at OH, and yeah mate, off the breakwall....just watch your step. Fish bite best there rising or falling high tide, but they like to sit on the edge out of the flow. Get some metals like the Spanyids I mentioned above, or otherwise throw a cubed pilchard out. Even a half or full pilly on double ganged hooks works a treat, just have to put up with the doggies...lol.

Caught both salmon and snook off the stones at Outer Harbour. You don't have to walk out far, just berley up or move around a bit til you find the fish. We also hooked into a school of slimy macks at OH recently, which are also gun baits for salmon and snook. Otherwise stock up on Spanyid Raider metals and chuck them out, cast for miles and salmon love them.

I recognize those backwaters. The highway in the distance also gives it away. Caught some very big carp and a few nice silvers and catties in those waters. Nice work mate.

Was fishing at the northern end of WL a few weeks ago when I ran into a few of these mongrels. They are on both sides of the West Lakes outlet into the Port, and like puffers, chew through flourocarbon leader like butter. Tenacious little fighters when they stay on though.

Cheers again for the reports. Those reddies are chunky. Got into some solid carp in metro ponds using freshly dug garden worms. Was using tigers too, but the local worms were getting smashed, easily out-fishing foreign tiger worms. Wynn Vale Dam and Mawson Lakes both worth a try.

Anyone braving the weather to go fishing this weekend?
Tinker replied to bjorn2fish's topic in General Fishing
Spent 3 hours using some big fat juicy garden worms on some big fat juicy carp, and a turtle. Still getting yabbies in the nets too, though not many, couple of big guys. Sneaking out early for a bream sesh tomorrow, even though it is only a lousy 1.89 high at 7am, just hope there is enough flow. If the wind stays relaxed, might drag my old man out in the tinny with me. The only problem is, tomorrows Mothers Day, so I might just have to take her too....lol. My thoughts go out to those who have lost their Mums recently, I hope you can all remember the happy times you shared on Mothers Day. -
Best advice for any waters.....match the hatch. An old saying from trout fishos. Means use the same type of bait and lures to copy the food that the species of fish you want is chasing. Applies in any fishing situation.

A $50 fishing rod, will still catch the same fish as a $500 fishing rod. And you won't cry when it breaks.

How NOT to get your photo taken with a Kingfish
Tinker replied to archerfish's topic in General Fishing
That sea lion has got big balls. That bloke in the second link, now only has one ball. -
Nice work SH. You might want to invest in a smoker, coz smoked salmon is the ducks guts. And I say that even though I don't like eating fish. Good sized squid too.

Excellent choice for winner. Stunning MC.

MAN, WHAT A FISH! I don't think your smile is big enough, I would be grinning my face off. Hope she gave you some decent curry on the way in.

Tagged SBT landed 22 years later at Port MacDonnell
Tinker replied to archerfish's topic in General Fishing
How many times in that 22 years did it head north, get jiggy with it and spawn? Nothing to be sneezed at landing a 100+kg SBT either. Which probably had the shits on coz last time it got hooked they jabbed a bloody tag in it...lol. Bet ya they won't catch it again. -
Just what truly is the worlds best fishing rod? At least I can truly say, it ain't that rod....

Cheers Bjorn. Interesting to hear of mullies still getting caught in WL. Hope some bream show up next week also for the S&H meet & greet. Been quite a few undersize salmon turning up in West Lakes, with occasional bigger models in among them. They almost get annoying when you are targeting bream. Need to move around a bit to find the fish sometimes.

Spill the beans mate. Tomorrows payday...
-
Cook em up and enjoy the feast. If you can spare a few though, peeled yabby tails are dynamite on big bream. Not to mention great bait for natives in the freshwater. That's if you don't eat em all...

Picked up 3 today with another 5 on order. From experience they were buggers sometimes to cast long distances coz the hooks kept fouling up with the leader. Apparently this issue has been rectified. Excellent for teabagging over the edge of rockwalls and pontoons.

Does anybody know any stores in the Adelaide metro area with Cranka Crabs? If so, please PM me ASAP.
