newtontoney 57
Can anyone clarify if its cool to be using a 6/0 mustad circle hook and 60lb leader off the metro beaches for rays or is this considered a no no because of shark fishing rules ?? cheers
Sykes121 2
Taken from PIRSA website.Hooks must not exceed 56mm in shank length and a gape of 23mm between 5am and 9pm.The use of any wire trace or a monofilament trace exceeding 1mm in diameter is strictly prohibited between 5am and 9pm.It is my understanding that if your hooks/leader etc. comply with the above rules, it should be all good..Perhaps someone could elaborate further?Cheers, S121. newtontoney
kon 300
NTTThe rules were adjusted late 2012 to cater for exactly that sort of thing while still making it very difficult to hook (and stay hooked up!) to a big toothie. If the hook measures up okay and the mono diameter is less than 1mm - no probs.60lb should be well under a mil... newtontoney
Underpants 1,543
Occasionally been using 8/0 Gamakatsu Octupus Circle's. These have 20mm gape so 6/0s should be fine; just wack one on the ruler and check! My 60lb Black Magic leader says 0.70mm on the pack so cant see 60lb leader going thicker than 1mm either. newtontoney 57
The Mustad Demon 6/0 has a gape of 21mm.
smokeykebab 175
circles and rays don't mix well from my past experiences. I just use a suicide or 2 snelled together depending on bait size. 100lb mono is about 1mm anything thicker becomes hard to tie with.I genernally run 80lb with a 5/0 suicide or 2 4/0s snelled together.
