yorke_angler 0
hoping to try some lure fishing in january up at Ardrossan but wouldnt have a clue where to start. I'll be targeting snook, salmon and whatever else they catch up there, mainly off the jetty. Could someone recomend me a few good lures to start off with, I've had a look through the threads here but theres so many different lures! any suggestions would be great, SP or HP, thanks. :)would this one be the best for snook? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=280278940515

benny 1
Use pretty much any minnow for salmon and snook, the only requirement is that it has to be baitfish profile lure.
yorke_angler 0
thanks benny, is there any particular colours that work best? Im guessing you'd use a darker one for overcast days?
benny 1
For snook and salmon any colour will work, but I reckon the best would be pearly white with a red head or any natural baitfish colour, the only requirement is that it mimics the baifish they are feeding on. Ranger 48
I've found salmon like white and snook like blue!Don't spend a lot on lures for these species, as they tend to hit pretty muck anything moving through the water, and the snook can make an awful mess of ya lures.I actually troll the metal Laser lures for snook, and ya can pick them up for under $5 at most tacklestores. yorke_angler 0
thanks for the tip ranger, yeh looks like those teeth can do some damage, lol.. i'll get a couple of the yo zuri minnows for now but I'll make sure to stock up on the cheap metal ones for more regular use.. :)are they the same as the ones they stock in kmart? their about 3 inches and have a holographic pattern on each side? Ranger 48
That'd be them, but ya should be able to pick em up in the tacklestores for around the same price, and then get a bit of good info on where to use em at the same time!
yorke_angler 0
i hear ya ranger, will definately support the sponsers of this great site.. ;)sorry to go off topic but im heading up to semaphore saturday, do many people catch snook there? im eager to catch one (my fist), heard they put up quite a fight.. :icon_e_biggrin: my mate often catches them bit further up at the break waters.. fishnfreak 0
i dont know about semaphore, but i like to make the best of their fight by using nice light tackle, I use 4-6lb, but with a leader of about 8-10lb, to help battle their teeth
Brooksey_134 1
try some power baits too YA if the HBs are slow salmon, snook and the odd mullie wil hit these with out hesitation! the blue, whites and greens work best tho
benny 1
There is an occasional snook caught at semaphore jetty, but as the place more often than not has dirty water and bugger all weed (or too much weed in the water column) so its not a better spot, I'd say ya would be better off going to Brighton Jetty for them. yorke_angler 0
thanks for the tip mate, the weed can get pretty bad up there sometimes especially after a few windy day/nights.. Dont think i've fished brighton before so I'll have to head up there during my holidays..
benny 1
No worries, I forgot to add, its best after dark at brighton.
