Jay R 151
Anybody know if this failed contraption is still sitting in close at Carrickalinga? Around 6months ago I saw a survey getting passed around on social media asking for opinions on what people thought should happen with it. Obviously I'm sure we would all like it sunk around 10km further out, be a nice little bit of structure !
OspreyFisher 56
From what I've heard it's a prototype wave generator that was being towed from Pt Adelaide to be trialed somewhere and while towing something went wrong and they've basically abandoned it and wiped their hands clean. They being the company that built it.
Jay R 151
Understand that, the company was in huge debt before this venture, went into receivership cos of this but have since been bought out. This is the second venture of theirs to sink, Port Kembla has a much bigger one a couple hundred metres off shore
Seeseacol 381
Yep, it's still there and no plans to move it as far as I know
Jay R 151
Shame it's so shallow, dare say it will still get fish around it if left long enough. Is it floating or anchored to the bottom?

Is it floating or anchored to the bottom? Anchored/sunk I believe, but no fishing allowed anywhere around it or climbing on the structure according to a sign on it. The residents are generally very unhappy that it has not been removed, someone needs to take responsibility for it's removal
Jay R 151
This company has made a few "green" blunders in its time: http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/story/2874663/port-wave-generator-removal-set-for-mid-2015/ The federal government gave them a nice grant ,only to have them stuff it up: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/latest/oceanlinx-wave-energy-developer-goes-bankrupt/story-e6frg90f-1226871245413 http://arena.gov.au/project/oceanlinx-1mw-commercial-wave-energy-demonstrator/ some nice structure underneath!! If only the money allocated for a new artificial reef in the gulf could be put into dragging this thing out wide. Kill 2 birds with one stone!! Seeseacol
Seeseacol 381
And to think if I were to dump rubbish into the ocean I would be prosecuted. Squid Inc., Jay R and bjorn2fish
