pescados 1
chuckemback wrote:melting the end of the wire DONT work!! cant believe i even tried it !I have to agree there especially if twisted wire.If you are really desperate you could try heat shrink, mainly used on electronics but if you can get a long enough length for your purpose slip it over your wire and with a hair dryer shrink it and seal ends with silicon. chuckemback 0
YEP Pescados i have done exactly that, heat shrink and siliconed the ends, balooned it out on weekend, now waiting to see if rust forms!if this fails too i might try a dab of araldite on the ends ! chuckemback 0
ospray , im trying to stop plastic coated wire from rusting after iv used it just a few of times.i use long wire traces , and the stainless steel still rusts.
luke_westlakes 4
just use black plastic coated wire! haha then you wont see the rust! to be honest, the rust probably wont do much! I usually heat shrink around the crimps and were i cut the wire, never really had to much trouble with rust!
pescados 1
chuckemback wrote:and the stainless steel still rusts.Hmmm, must be a very poor quality of stainless steel, Stainless steel should not rust, hence the name stainless, in my experience I only ever seen rust on stainless after it has been welded actually more a brown discoloration than rust, not a great problem, just does not look pretty. chuckemback 0
heres another plastic coated wire with rust ! used it two times end of last summer.would you use it over and over again??
rocknev 2
maybe when you get back in town, give it a rinse off and a coating with crc or something.,or put it into a container with some olive oil or similar to stop it from discolouring.cooking oil is pretty cheap these days for the BIN LADEN BRANDS.cut the top off a 2 lt container and drop your trace in. luke_westlakes 4
yeah ive only ever had that much rust from rigs i made last season, i usually make new rigs each season now anyways?
rocknev 2
i was just thinking, as an added bonus, the cooking oil should work its way down between the strands, and when used should provide a pretty decent slick in the water as well...
pescados 1
I'll go along with nev. However just a thought, why not soak them when brand new before any usage !!That way the oil should get in there well and truly providing more protection and a slick as nev said.
