I don't really have anything left to contribute to this but hopefully people remember the thread is here and add to it when they get ideas in future.
-
Some good ideas/responses there, cheers guys. It's amazing how much you can save by going to a little bit of effort and not taking the lazy option of buying everything.

Even post where you have received good deals on plastics, lures, servicing, cheap sinkers, etc

All of us fisherman and in particular boat fisherman know that fishing is getting more expensive with the price of fuel, bait, launching fees, ice etc all stacking up when we go for a fish. The cost as well as time constraints are often factors that stop people from taking their boat out. This thread is for people to post ideas that they have come up with to reduce the cost of fishing. This could be where you get your cheap bait from, how you make your own ice, bait collection etc. Look forward to seeing some ideas.

Do leave a swivel on your line between sessions?
seagypsy replied to glengood87's topic in Bait & Tackle
I've been doing a figure of eight loop in mono for about 20 years and it hasn't caused me any problems lol. I bimini twist my braid to wind on connections but mono I just go figure of eight or double granny loop. -

seagypsy replied to glengood87's topic in Bait & Tackle
You could just tie a small loop in the end of your mono and attach you swivel with the loop and clip swivel to your squid jig then when you go carping remove the swivel from the loop and loop your hook on. Having a swivel and a hook might reduce your hookup rate. -

Bait fishing I run braid to snap then snap to loop in rig Plastics I use braid to leader . ( normally replace the leader after every trip ) Trolling braid to mono wind on leader to BB swivel which is left attached and clipped to guide frame -

For me getting the part in good time is more important than saving a few dollars. I'll go with who ever gets me back fishing the quickest within reason. It's takes the store longer to get the parts because they probably put in a monthly parts order to save on postage or receive a discount bulk orders.

http://www.shimanofish.com.au/customer-service/service-centre.html Well recently I have had a bad run with reel parts and ordered some through a local shop. After waiting almost 4 weeks and being told that they will call when the parts are in I have lost patience and went looking online for a different solution. I came across this service from Shimano and gave them a call. They organised the parts and shipped them that day ( Overnight postage ). So if you ever need parts for your Shimano reel and don't want to wait around twiddling your thumbs I recommend this.
