Strange looking thing.

Simms if you want to splash out on a pair that will last you through thick and thin. Tough, breathable and comfortable. Might have to special order but well worth it.

Bear spray is basically pepper spray. It comes in a little fire extinguisher bottle. The whole idea is to blast the bear in the face and pray it is enough to spook it off. Hey Cal, At that time of year you won't see any bears. Come spring and summer though you best be carrying a can of bear spray. Not uncommon for them to be around especially when spawning is happening as they catch all the salmon coming up the streams. As for wolves they are around but they well and truly do not bother you if your even lucky enough to see one. Pretty sure there has only been one fatal Wolve attack on human's in Canada...don't know if that's because nobody is round to tell the tale after the fact..lol In any event they are no problem at all. Beautiful country up that way. Was my first time fishing a river of that size too. Was challenging to say the least.

Yeah it got pretty windy for a bit there. Came screaming down the gully. Their was a section by the estuary that just blew icy wind constantly. We didn't stick around long there. Heater in the car sure got a working that day.

Went home over Christmas. Dad and I grabbed the 10 weights and decided to target some Gold River Steelhead. We had heard some reports coming from the lower reaches of the island that the Steelies were staring to move into the rivers for their winter spawning. Seems like is just the luck of the draw. Iv'e come across some pools that spook easy, others where I have basically cast the fly right on their head without spooking. Never did manage to catch that white carp. Might go back and check out the same spot this week.

I will look into this Tinker. It feels a bit like cheating scenting up a fly..but if it makes the difference between no fish and ..A fish... well then I'm sold

I've tried that. Had some success. Just dipped it in the juice from the sweet corn. I'm heading overseas for a few weeks so I'm hoping old Moby Dick will still be kicking around when I get back.

Hi all. Last few days I have been targeting carp on the fly. Been having a hell of a time but fun all the same. I have managed to spot a Moby Dick of a carp in a spot down by the Torrens. I call him that because he is white in color with the markings of a Coi. Looks pretty cool. But he is a smart bastard. I swear he is working together with some of his friends swimming around. I'm starting to feel like captain Ahab chasing this one. For example...blind cast to where I last saw him on his beat up and down...slow strip and sink..watching the end of the line...Nothing..something catch
