  1. Thats a cracker pic samantic. One for his 21st for sure.
  2. Just a few pics while waiting for a bloody snapper run
  3. That would be the reason for photocomp1 and photocomp2 then
  4. Is there 2 photo comps running this time??? One for flathead and 1 for salmon?? Thought I was losin it when I started reading the salmon comp one and reading the flathead one 15 mins earlier
  5. Qld regs for banana prawns 1 10l per bucket per person. Cast nets allowed.. Why not I say
  6. These are almost the same as the rod I am wanting to build but it may be cheaper to purchase one of these instead. The blank I was recommended is only 20 bucks cheaper than the SeaJigger.
  7. Me too mate. They will destroy what we have here otherwise.
  8. Alvey rods are built a certain way. The first eye is halfway down the rod. There is also an open runner closer to the reel seat. The butts are also short So basically Most off the shelf surf rods are not suitable for the alvey these days
  9. I find whiting are great scrappers for their size and are now being targeted on lures and sp's but probably not as timid as a large bream. I think old snapper are just as wiley and you dont have to use tiny gear to make that drag scream
  10. I ve only seen the colour range for the vibes but I think POB and Srt are the go

    surf rod

If ya lucky someone might have a second hand 1 for sale in here or if ya gonna look brand new off the shelf I reckon that the Silstar Crystal power tips are good for the money. Pretty tough and cast well and will handle a decent fish. Other wise your probably lookin at lower end shimano or a jarvis walker. Penn also have some budget rods in that size that might suit you.
  12. Those books are usually written as standard time. You usually add an hour for daylight savings
  13. Sounds like maybe the drag is a bit sticky. Id be taking the drag washers out and giving them a good clean. A bit of a wet sand with a fine grade of wetndry on something really smooth like a plate of glass on the metal washers. Reoil if necessary and put back together again. That should sort it out.
  14. Now thats a winning idea Wedgetail. And dead easy to see results to cos I reckon we lose about 75% of our leads if not more
  15. Cheers Cal. But you forgot to mention one thing. The satisfaction of catching on something you've made yourself.
  16. I like ya style Cal. Might give that a go 2
  17. Hey Cal. Yeah spot light is where I went but couldnt seem to find the tinsely stuff so I tried this tubing. I'll go back and check again and maybe ask this time 2. Cheers mate
  18. Yep. That'd be the one i'm after, the satisfying one Its only more time fishin, but if it must be done then so be it. Thank **** you didnt take off with the spare skirt bit AFF. Was gettin a bit worried you'd pick up on it
  19. Dunno. these are fairly bright colours and I reckon whipper snipper cord would be stiffer again. I only spent 5 bucks on this stuff and I have enough to do ????? Crap loads I've got a spare lucanus skirt too but I might just keep that for the jig its designed for
  20. That is a bit of a concern. Maybe for the timid biters, but if they eat real squid not to mention crabs surely they shouldnt be too put off by it. Yeah those placcys work well on the squid. Vibe lures will also get em hummin too
  21. Because I can Nah The snapper flashers for what they are seem a little pricey and I thought I would do something similar, saw the tubing and thought of the lucanus straight away. Why not try to give my self the best chance of catchin a decent red off the rocks. Both the snatchers/flashers and lucanus style systems claim to work although off the rocks as pointed out probably isnt the most efficient way to fish them but its worth a try.Hopefully I have also worked out a way to rig up a soft plastic and have it presented well enough to work effectively. Just a way for me to combine different st
  22. Cheers AFF and Dubs. Yeah I figured they were supposed to flap around abit. I am using like a silicone tubing type stuff. I think its a little stiff for what I really wanted though. Thought it was a bit more flexible I'll just keep tryin with em though and see if I can get a result
