  2. Absolutely spewing I havent come across this lure before, tho' I've used its smaller 35mm cousin and had to fit trebles for better results in the fresh water Got to be the meanest looking blade with a massive eye and TWO good sharp trebles albeit a bit light for heavier specimens!Check out the shimmer when the light catches it the right way Just gotta get it wet now (the blade!)and see if it lives up to my expectations, might even be better than my all time proven favourite "Berkley Big eye" You tacklerats out there should be able to tell the members who the manufacturer is, a clue is it's
  3. That's strange, all my small reddys always fall back in the water accidentally :S Gimme a kilo fillet any day :woohoo:
  4. Uncle Brad can get you started on the basics, certainly enough to tie a Clouser and a foam popper, just enough to give a bit of competition to MJ
  5. http://www.fishandfly.co.uk/bookrevs/clyde.htmlHere you go rollcast, one good turn deserves another Good luck in the land of Kiwi, one of my dream destinations when I moved to Aussie 20 years ago Still haven't been yet.retiring next year so it could still happen :unsure:Hope we all get to hear how you went when you return
  6. Don't tell him too much Mick, he fishes on your patch AND he does all right by all accounts
  7. Wow, this site continues to blow me away :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: So much good oil, how can you not fail to be impressed B)Thanks to all the experts for sharing, now I just gotta get my head around this stuff and get challenged with the fly tying side of it, I'm sure I'll get plenty of help if I get stuck :PThanks guys! Roll cast: A special thanks to you, so much knowledge in one head, you sure know your stuff On the subject of Fly tying books, I think I've mentioned on S&H before about a book which really pushed my Fly tying buttons when I lived in Scotland for a few years. 8. OK, agreed Shane, we have nominated you as the new "Potential, S&H Fly Tying Club" spokes person Please report back as soon as more information becomes available.Could be a few karmas in it for you if you do a good job
  9. I think Joe lost interest as there were so many guys wanting to use their own materials and Joe's idea was to get the tackle industry involved to make more/better fly tying gear available and we could bulk buy, thus making good savings Not sure where it will go from here, tho' with the wealth of Fly Tying talent on S&H and 67 replies and who knows how many hits here, there's obviously a big interest and a definite need for a Fly Tying Group/Club.Any one interested in picking it up and running with it? :woohoo:
  10. Just love my little 2500 Shimano Slade on my Shimano Raider. I fish twice a week every week in fresh and lately salt and the 54 bucks I laid out on it has been more than re paid in fun, fish and utter reliability. Had the reel about 8 months now and haven't stripped/cleaned it once, it never misses a beat and has anti twist rollers which keep the Rovex 10 lb braid under tight control, if I said I'd had more than 4 or 5 small wind knots in it during the time I've owned it,I would be telling lies :woohoo: The 2500 size spool has the added advantage of a faster retreive which is not to be sneeze

  14. rocknev wrote: That's not a silly comment either as the body section is a "dead ringer" for an earwigs body although it's definiteley a member of the "ephemerids" (live for one day only!)

  16. Been puzzled by this upwinged ephemeropteran which is very prolific on a crystal clear Club dam in spring Anybody able to help out please, or, if not able to supply the "techy" term, at least a fly pattern (dry) to imitate it :woohoo: Cheers, tonyb

  18. Thanks for the mostly positive input guys, I'd been brewing up on this for a few days and do feel a lot better now that I've had a bit of a grizzle about it.Just one point tho,I wonder how many of us would be utterly confident that every single cockle in a bag of over 100 was comfortably over size when 2/3 rds of them were thrown back as being undersize? especially with the threat of a $300 expiation and a court conviction depending on it  I'd be able to buy quite a few sacks of cockles for that price!
  19. Took the "bride" down to Goolwa beach recently to have a go for the first time in the 20 years I've been in Aussie to catch some cockles for bait.I phoned around a few mates for best spots and techniques and read up a bit on S&H on the same topic.Next I sent a text message "Cockle" to the new SMS TEXT service recently put in place by the SA Government.3 or 4 seconds later the info was on my mobile phone.OK, bag limit 300, size limit 35 mm.Now, no cockle measure so, headed to the back shed to make one and cast my eye on a copper made, cable saddle which I flattened with the hammer, carefull
  20. Well done mate, just wondering how many man hours you've put in to finally score a mully or two? Looks a sweet spot, could be tempted to put my finesse gear away for a bit of heaven like that :woohoo:
  21. Hey, Rick, where you bin hiding fella?Big SAFWAA outing tomorrow :woohoo: :woohoo: Apolgies for raiding this post
  22. Trouble with that is you then have to rub the snapper back on your hands to get rid of the tooth paste
  23. Well done Sandy :woohoo: Luv the way you get stuck into fishing with so much enthusiasm Onya for getting down and dirty with the cleaning of the fish Great report/pics on what looks to be a pretty blustery day
