  1. You can read about stuff forever and a day mate, the best advice any one can give you is to go out and get your lures wet. ;) That's how you get experience and you'll soon be writing to other newbys about what worked for you :fishing:Good freshwater lures are "Blades", any floating hardbody around 35 to 40 mm long and never be without a Squidgy Bug B)

  2. Pellets make a lot of sense if they are indeed escapees but I'd be very tempted to try a bug tail or wriggler tailed SP with a minimum weight or no weight jig head, as Kingfish are super predators in the Ocean just like Salmon?Lucanus squid imitations would be worth a go too (if you can afford them)as the monster Kingfish are right into livie squid for their tucker!

  3. I'd be careful using those sprays as they penetrate so well they can displace grease and oil on vital moving parts   :ohmy:A handle on my favourite egg beater went this way with over zealous use of a particular singin' dancin' spray product that every one raves about  I'd follow Joe's advice to the letter as he is one of the best if not the best, reel (real) mechanics I know and I can vouch for his work on reels of mine in the past B)B)B)

  4. I'm a bit one eyed as I write a Column and articles for Wildcoast but what I've found is that the old saying that "everything has been done before" is true with all information media and an Editor's task is to constantly try and present new and interesting angles on every issue and it must be a constant headache all the time IMO.I've just become the owner of hundreds of Fishing magazines kindly donated by LBB and have had a ball raking through the work of some phenomenal Australian Fishing Authors who are all basically doing the same thing down the years but with their personal experiences thrown in to give their work something fresh or informative.Summing up, I think every single Australian fishing magazine is outstanding and you'd be hard pressed to fault the pictorial and editorial content of any of them.Keep on keeping on IMHO :clap::clap:

  5. Hi Mate, my experience of digi cameras is limited, (on the technical side) and after dunking and ruining a few I decided a waterproof camera was the go. I am a photo journalist with WildCoast magazine and take lots of pics a week to try and get that one which will "Fly" in the magazine. After a fair bit of research and factoring in value for money, I settled for the "Olympus UTOUGH" which is shockproof from a 5ft drop and waterproof to 10ft!The latter is ideal for hand held underwater shots some of which I put on my S&H posts and in the Magazines and which are a heap of fun to master after taking ship loads of shots ;)The camera's 12 megapixel specification is way more detail than I need and it has the facility to turn the megapixels down for managing/saving smaller pic files if needed? The software you get for picture management was a bit bemusing at first for a novice, but now I'm familiar with it it is staggeringly efficient at all features of photo management B) PS I have no commercial interest at all in Olympus but can not speak more highly of this productCheers, tonyb.

  6. Just made one up myself' date='how do you reckon this will go on the troll,I'm thinking of giving it a go under some bridges. cheers brenton[img']http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s55/brentonwfc/trollfly001Small.jpg[/img]

Geez mate that is bloody awesome!!!How in hells name did you get such a lifelike troll imitation out of a Fly tying vice!!!!???I'm in awe of your skills, even the legendary Dazza can learn something from you mate.:laugh::laugh: Another superb bit of craftsmanship again Darren, that display board will be a legacy to your skills :clap::clap:
  7. Used a swivel less OO size bait clip for all of my lure fishing' date=' does everything and more than a hand tied knot does' date=' it does not look so clumsy and visible to the fish and the main reason is the advantage of instant and reliable quick changes of lure. You tie one tucked half blood knot to the clip and then forget about it!Works superbly on all SP's and HB's of any size or shape or pattern. Go the bait clip and soooo cheap to buy ;)[/quote'']Can braid be tied directly to this clip ????I have heard that many pro's and con's regarding braid to terminal tackle, it is mind boggling???CheersTrihull
Kinda defeats the object of finesse fishing if you don't use flurocarbon invisible leaders as the braid itself is very much visible to a shy biting fish. The tiny clip combined with invisible leader is a given for all forms of finessing lures IMO and also that of tournament anglers etc.Braid to flurocarbon is easily joined with the "improved surgeons knot" which is simplicity itself to tie as you merely overlap the two ends, then tie an ordinary overhand knot 3 or 4 times, wet it and snug it down then braid scissor off the loose ends. Hope this is helpful?

  9. A top class choice IMO mate, however do bear in mind that travel rods are a compromise and are in no way equal to a one or two piece rod, merely a simple means of getting you fishing!A bit like comparing a powerful desktop PC, mains powered, against a slower, more prone to overheating, unrepairable when broken, but infinitely more portable, lap top PC?

  10. Hi all' date='Always been a fan of the Force 10 snaps - they were tiny and painted black - didn't effect lure action and fish didn't seem to mind either B) Apparently they've stopped making the smallest size, and even the black colour? I've seen some around the traps - but these are often worth way more than I was used to paying from Big W or Kmart  Any thoughts to where I could pick something up in the southern area?

Are "Force 10" not under the "Big W" label as well? Might be well worth a wander in there?
