Bluegoose got a reaction from Rickster in Time and Effort Fishing
As soon as i could walk my grandfather had a rod in my hand And as soon as i could fish by myself he took me on his fortnightly fishing trips to the MurrayWhen i turned 16 and got my license i continued traveling to the same spot at the Murray as well as the odd sea fishingI joined a fishing club in the 80s where i gained experience with different aspects of fishing and enjoyed the competitive side of the sport. But even though there was now a hugh variety of fishing locations i always looked forward to fishing the MurrayThen one day recently it hit meIt wasnt just the fishing It was nature at its best where a man can get away from the day to day crap and be one with nature. There is nothing better than sitting there quietly watching nature as it should be.Then again a few beers and a barbie would just put the icing on the cake :woohoo:

I use willy and found that site to be okLast Tuesday for example most TV reports winds of 15kph + seas up to 1.5mtrsWilly said light winds and 0.2mtr swellWilly was rightAlso i look at weather radars and mapsOver time you can predict by the isobars when i could be rough and when it could be calmA TRUE story was back in the eightiesThe first wet Australian F1 Grand Prix in AdelaideMyself and a Mate who owned a sports store in Rundle St met in the street at 7am Sunday before starting workThe forecast was for a sunny day with the occasional light showerWe both noticed the clouds as we were coming to work and the discussion once we met was the weather. We both knew the forecast was going to be wrong and we both anticipated it was going to bucket down.Buy as many umbrellas as you can i told him and he agreedAs i was running his second store by the Stag Hotel i didn't see what he bought until it landed on my lap1000 rain poncho'sBut it was still sunny, but we both knew it was coming A few hours later it hit and it bucketed down. I sold 1000 within 1hr and was screaming for more5000 more arrived and it was mayhemAll the retailers couldn't believe how we predicted the weather as they scurried to take advantage of the situation. But my mate had bought the supplier out of all his stockAt the end of the day we were soaking wet and had sold 20,000 cheap plastic poncho's and rain coats between us at $5 a pop and they cost my mate $1eaA retailer approached us at the end of the day and asked us how did we know about the rainWe both just said we were FISHERMENAnd ill never forget one 10 year old kidHe saw something in my shop worth $400 and liked itSo he bought 1 poncho for $5Minutes later he was back and bought 2Then 4, then 8, then 16 and so onAt the end of the day he walked in and bought the $400 item with his dad CASHHe was re-selling the poncho's for $10 inside the trackOne Smart Kid

I saw a photo of waders on a person on a boat and it bought back some not too happy memories(Sorry Rickster No Disrespect)I have a full size set and they have been sitting in the shed and only ever get brought out if im fishing Murray Backwaters on a freezing cold dayI have seen guys washed in at Browns Beach, West Cape, & Roystens Head and trust me it was touch and go getting these guys out the water. Once they fill up and get suction it is almost impossible to get them off.The guy at Browns was gone for all money and if wasn't for a quick thinking guy who dived in and cut up his waders with a knife to let the water flow through, he wouldn't be with us todayI still see guys wearing them wading in the shallows at local beaches when its calm and i cant see a major problem there but its the guys i see in surf beaches and near deep water that scare the crap out of me

I have two moments i cant separateThe first was when i was a younger fishing with my parents, grandparents, uncles & aunties and sister on the Murray at our then regular spot.We started to pack up and call it a day when my Grandfather hooked a Redfin, then another and another. Within minutes there were four of us hooking Redfin on bare silver hooks and as we landed them there was someone handing us another rod while they took the fish offWe caught over 50 in 30mins of mayhem and then as suddenly as it started it stopped. The second was last yearSitting at the end of my landing at Mannum at first lightFishing was slow but watching the Pelicans glide through the fog, the noise of the Kookaburras, all the wildlife and the fish jumpingAbsolute Heaven and Nature at its bestHow good does it get ????
