  1. Yeah it's a good spot & i reckon there's some big fish down there, but the rolling swell made it impossible to anchor up, so it was hard work maintaining a consistent fishing position. As i was paddling back to the ramp i noticed a pair of legs 2/3rds of the way along the jetty with a line out. So some local knows a way out there. This evening i Smoked a dozen fillets with some "Mallee" sawdust from Tackle World for 10mins & left to cool in the tin for 5 mins. They've turned out really nice. A subtle flavour & not heavily salty. Really pleased with the result. An incredible amo
  2. Would you bother filleting them or Smoke them whole?
  3. Nah....took my Kayak out at Ardrossan grain jetty. It was a slow morning with loads of Ruggers, but i reckon the Trevally pull hard pound for pound compared to the Snapper. Cheers for the info.....smoker it is. They'll make good sized Fillets
  4. Picked up a few small Trevally today. Do they freeze well? Can you smoke them?
  5. There was a similar scene at Grange Jetty shoreline about a week or so ago.
  6. I've heard a few die hards quote the East is least part, & don't bother to wet a line . They've even said they take no notice of myth of poor fishing during dodge tides & just change their tactics, but the Easterly switch off is intriguing. There must be some science behind it ?
  7. Cheers for the feedback guys. Some interesting methods. I suppose it confirms that you really can't push it past the 6 month mark. I'll have to get a bit more organized & get into the habit of marking my freezer bags with dates.
  8. Obviously fresh is best, but whats the do's & dont's on freezing fish. I hate to think they were sacrificed just to end up as crab bait.I'm looking for advice on table fish like Whiting, Gar, Snook, Tommies, ST's. Whats the max time these csn spend in the freezer without spoiling? & any tips on preventing freezer burn?Any feedback appreciated. J

  10. Ahhh yes the dark round patches...seen them. No these are deep noticeable troughs. Could be snails....i might take a trowel down there tomorrow.
  11. Iv'e recently noticed lots of troughs/tracks in the sand around the gutters at Tennyson. I assume there not crop circles sending messages to martians as their a bit random in their pattern but what are they ? Are they the Yabbies that people talk about? If their a good bait how do you get them Dig or pump?
  12. My copy's got a big 'FREE' statement on the front cover.Should be plenty of copies avail at your local tackle store. Tackle Porn !!
  13. I'm pretty intrigued with surface popper fishing. Have you heard of Squid taking them?
  14. Hey Jack, how do the action of these differ from Surface poppers?Inspired by one of your previous posts I took a trip up to Thompsons & had a few hits from YFW on a Strikepro Clear Popper at the w/end. Never tried a popper before then, so didn't have any idea how to do the retrieve, but must have done something right.
  15. Try melting some butter in a frying pan. Squeeze in some lemon juice & add & squish up a spoonfull of Capers. Fry breadcrumbed fillets in this .....Delicious !!!
