  1. Bit of a jump from from the 2000 to 3000.....I was just looking at my 3000 Freams compared to my 2004 caldia Kix and there's a BIG size difference.Mate I would seriously consider the 2500 sol. Still got 15.4lbs (7kg) of drag and small !! More than capable of pulling in some nice snapper and you've already felt it pulling in some nice redfin....smooth as !

  2. hahah too right! Bring It On.I now have this secret desire to catch sa's biggest land based snapp ha buts its a secret.
kat you have the best land based snapper spots in australia just down the road at whyalla. just need to ask right people to show you the way thats all. pop in to see wes or dave at the local sportsfishing scene there and they will point you into the right direction' date=' if they give you nothing ill give you one.:fishing:[/quote']Too right there srick...just have a chat to Rocknev...already taken a heap of SH members out on the rocks for some decent snaps...have a look at his pb from the rocks...awesome effort!
  3. can be real hit and miss down there so not a bad effort. Shame they didn't get you onto any of the big boys !! I'm guessing they took you around to deep creek for the nanny in close ?? They normally go for the salmon on the way back past jervis so goos to see a few coming through already. Any blue devils taken ???

  4. Some top fish there guys...For me...It's been a summer chasing Redfin with pletny taken over the kilo mark upto 1.45kg ( from memory)Crabbing, garfish were thick... the odd good haul of KGW althought the YFW were a standout from the shore this sumemr... recently it's been the snapper though....Thinking back though I thinkthe all time greatest session was landing 4 Rainbow trout over 50cm and 1.5kg in a session. The SAFWAA dams have been hot all summer as has LBB's dam with the late arvo sessions on fly.....ahhhh..summer !!!Bring on winter though..full blown assault on the salmon this year !!! and I reckon a port mully session or 3. Who can forget the winter KGW either !!

  5. man of mystery..... either way there are some big fish in the sea...Srick there's no point being jelous mate....everyfish is different for their own merrits.... My avatar... On a charter caught with 75lb main line to 150lb leader....no fight for 20lb fish, very dissapointed. However... the last 7-8kg fish I landed locally faught tooth and nail all the way and was far better than some of the bigger fish.....all different!Hopefully I can replicate Brents efforts tomorrow and get a few with the old man !! still plenty around in numbers..but for how long??

  6. Are you allowed to troll lures from a boat within the 100metre mark(seaward side of reef) shown on the aquatic reserve map?

No' date=' there is a total fishing ban within 100 metres of the reef, except from the permitted area on the jetty.

Also is anchoring banned within the 100metre mark?

No, anchoring / boating is permitted, it is the activity of fishing that is not allowed in this area.Hope that helps answer your questions.TroyFisheries OfficerBirkenhead
Growing up down at Pt Noarlunga it was always a summer favourite to park the boat in shore of the reef and snorkel around with mates and family within a reasonable distance as not to freak the old lady out (she hated swimming in open water !!)Later in the years as a driver of the IRB's (surf life saver) for Porties I had the joy of trying to impart this knowldege to many a boaties that thought it was ok to anchor and fish right on top of the reef. Needless to say it wasn't always taken on board...another reason why I still keep fisheries phone number in the mobile !!This kind of information helps the sytem remain one of our best in the state and still a favourite for divers, snorkelers and swimmers alike. Thanks again Troy:clap:
