  1. It sucks. In the end we will ONLY be able to go fishing if we have a licence, BUT we will only be able to fish where the Greenies let us. Note the ruckus in Vic/NSW about 30% Marine Parks lockout ATM. The RFL doesn't seem to be doing anything to help Rec fishers there.Too many rules and too many costs already. How can anyone be keen to add another cost? We already paid for the launch ramps around the State via our rego, we pay for Emergency Services via a "levy" - what next? It's a very bad plan and the money will vanish into general revenue.RegardsRJ

GNSS,I hope your December meeting is a roaring success and you all devise a global strategy to overcome the serious garbage problem that exists. When you have your strategy in hand - post it here.In the meanwhile, if I come across any instance of misnaming datum I'll be sure to alert the media. That might be a lot of alerts though, since I deal with this issue every working day.I'd be very pleased to see an increased level of attention applied to taxonomy as well, but there just aren't enough hours in the day.Good luck,RJ.

  7. Easy as. Just use a local grid like I do. Then you can give your marks to anyone and they'll have NFI and never find your spots.Only downside is I have a bit of trouble finding again them as well :woohoo: Cheers,

The large miners rehabilitate their sites these days. Whether they would do it if they weren't forced to is debatable. It wasn't that long ago that one largish company buried all their junk in plastic bags in the Flinders. The Government is inconsistent about environmental management in this area, and would probably argue that the cost is too high to do the right thing.Anyone
  9. I know nothing about the price of muffins - but this is what a mouth piece costs. Bear in mind that you've very little control about what comes out of that mouth even though you pay for it:-"Position Details Executive Director, Fisheries Victoria • $163,000 to $259,703 Total Remuneration Package • Convenient CBD Location • Lead the sustainable development of Victoria’s fisheries resources The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) is currently seeking an Executive Director, Fisheries Victoria for a five year fixed term contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a
  10. Rec fishing is getting hard, and it's going to get harder. Every aspect of boating is becoming more expensive. Even without any changes to on the water rules will there be fewer fishers each year? The new license laws in WA combine with a 2 month closure, so your annual fishing license over there is only good for 10 months. Anyone who supports the introduction of a Recreational Fishing License in SA should take note. These laws have been put in place even BEFORE the no-take zones are determined in each of the huge marine parks that blanket WA (just as they do here). The greens will push for eve

  13. It's not April Fools day already is it?What are some people thinking? How do they get to make laws when it appears that their brains are broken?http://www.theage.com.au/world/no-more-live-goldfish-flushing-for-swiss-20080902-47c5.htmlI reckon it's a bit crook to flush your pet fish down the dunny when you've had enough of them, but the rest of it is pretty bizarre. Seems that if you catch a protected fish (if they have any over there - except for goldfish) you're not allowed to return it to the water. Clear as the mud on the pigs back - before it's mandatory shower :icon_lol: - and it's LAW i
  14. I read that last night and wondered about it the same as you. It did occur to me that they might have taken the opportunity to do some work on the ramp while it was it was high and dry and easier to work on.That might be, but I keep hearing (in the media) that there's not likely to be any significant flow in the river for a very long time - years and years. IF that's true there doesn't seem much chance that they'll re-open Lake Bonney to the river any time soon.Maybe that $20,000 would be enough to put up some speed signs on the Port River, or some flashing beacons along the length of the O/H
  15. From the back page of the latest Govt. "On Deck" magazine.(Allocated to) "Berri Barmera Council: $20,000 for modifications to the ramp adjacent to the Yacht Club on Lake Bonney at Barmera"Dad (lives up that way) reckons the water has moved back 100m from the old shore line since they blocked off Lake Bonney from the river. Must be one hell of a modification! Can anyone get a photo of it?Seems that in the face of stiff competition from around the country, our esteemed SA Government retains the "Biggest Knuckleheads" title for yet another year. :icon_lol:Though I got to admit that the rest of th
