  1. Only a pic of the first one caught mate, after that I was too busy catching them. This one was only just legal though.Cheers Dazz
  2. Even though we lost on Monday I finished this one off to take pride of place in the fishing room I know, I'm losing it but I have followed Hawthorn for over 40 years Cheers Dazz
  3. Yes mate they are eyes made by dipping flurocarbon line into epoxy.I reckon eyes are the key to flies and lures so all the flies I tie have some sort of eye on them.Cheers Dazz
  4. I fished this little fly last Wednesday and it proved to be very readily accepted .The water at the moment is a kind of Dark and silty color and everything else I threw at the bream was refused but this one was smacked.Might be worth trying if your water color is similar.Cheers Dazz
  5. Yeah mate a very weedless fly this one. You can fish it over any sort of bottom and it just bounces over the hard stuff.Be careful using Zonker strips as they do have a bit of a tendency to tail wrap but they do give alot of wiggle.Cheers Dazz
  6. 1fish,How did you go with this mate. Here's one I tied to use on the Snapper last night, mind you this is on a 4/0 hook but you should be able to get the idea.Cheers Dazz
  7. Mate tie yourself a keel fly. Tie some solder wire or thin lead wire on the top of the hook shank and it will flip over and do exactly what you want. Very easy and no need to mess around bending hooks. I'll tie one up and take a picture for you tomorrow if you have any difficulty in understanding what I mean. Let me know.Cheers Dazz
  8. Brenton that's a bloody ripper mate, I reckon the Bream could go that one. They love fluro pink Thanks Tony, you may notice a bit of a theme to these flies, each AFL team is going to be on my walls I'm doing a Hawthorn F.C. one at the moment but it's stalled while I wait for my U.S Supplier to get my much needed feathers over to me. At least the body on this one is done and if I must say it's come out very nice.I'll be leaving Port Power till last and only do it on a size 10 hook  :pinch: Mars it all depends on what feathers I use, the cape that the Jungle cock feathers came from
  9. You lose wooly buggers and I lose parachutes, between us we are both good tree catchers  Thanks mate.Cheers Dazz
  10. Thanks Cal,Yes mate it's very rewarding to know you can still fish side by side with a lure or bait fisho and still produce the goods Cheers Dazz
  11. G'day Jaggs,No mate these are all show and no go. They go into a frame and up onto the wall. Some of the feathers used are far too expensive to see the water but it keeps me occupied for a while tying them Ranger you sound a bit like me mate, I only started tying these as something pretty to hang on the wall, there aren't too many Atlantic Salmon around these parts which it what these flies are supposed to catch. My fishing flies get a flogging though ;)Thanks for the praise fellas.Cheers Dazz.
  12. Thanks Rhett, I appreciate the pump up Cheers Dazz
  13. Here's another one I've just finished.Something different from the usuals. Cheers Dazz
  14. Mate I'd just launch at the public ramp and then just use the lockup area of the boat club to secure your car. You can only be charged for leaving your car at the public ramp if it has a trailer on it but as yours would be locked away I don't reckon you'd have anything to worry about. It just means you'd have a small walk when you want to get your car to retrieve the boat. Just a thought.Cheers Dazz.
  15. G'day Rollcast,I didn't say trout flies weren't challenging it's just you can only have so many in your fly boxes and all my fresh and saltwater boxes are full.I've even thinned them out and given away that many I can't keep track of them and I still probably won't use all the ones I have left This is just a bit of fun and relaxation for me mate and hopefully at the end of the day a few flies to hang on the walls and maybe some to give away as presents .Cheers Darren
  16. Thankyou Tony.Mate I already have a very nice Jungle cock cape stored away nice and secure You are right about Customs too.I'm lucky that I know a few people with Macaws aswell so I have those feathers covered too  I've got a very nice selection of feathers put together already and the little Asian Kingfisher I got the other day is going to come in very handy.Luckily there are a few places in the U.S. that still sell certain feathers and you can get them into this country without any problems, I got about $500.00 worth in the mail a couple of weeks ago and they are rippers.Yes it is a
  17. I know what your saying Chris, hopefully Customs have a few slack days and I can get some of the feathers I'm after. I have a very good selection put together already and yes it is a very expensive form of flytying but it's making me think while tying and I love a challenge. Somehow tying trout and Saltie flies are so easy now it's not funny Let me know when the rod you get turns up and I can run through the process with you.Cheers Dazz
  18. Been getting tired of tying trout and saltwater flies so I thought I'd try something new.Decided to try some Classic Salmon flies, these will be mounted in frames to hang on the walls of my new flytying room. Anyway, something different that you don't see much of here in Australia .Cheers Dazz
  19. G'day Couta,As Jack and Brenton said I fish for mullies with flies exclusively. I don't bait fish while flyfishing as I prefer to keep on the move while trying to hunt them down and as you would probably know the lines on bait rods only get in the way. This is not to say I haven't used bait to try and catch them but the funny thing is I could never catch them on bait but since I've been flyfishing for them my results are quite consistent :cheer: The best fish I've pulled with my Prawn flies was nearly a meter long but I'm yet to beat that.Saltwater Flyfishing down here in Adelaide seems to
  20. G'day Kimbo,Thought you were dead mate I haven't heard from you for a while. You still haven't finished that rod yet . I might have to come up and finish building it for you before the dust leaves stains on it I'll definately catch up soon mate as I need a Big Cod on fly .Hope the harvest goes well mate.Cheers Dazz
  21. Here's some more.Cheers Dazz
  22. Been messing around in the shed today knocking up some tools that will be used in part of my flytying lessons.I will be contacting all those people that expressed interest in the lessons in the next week.Look forward to catching up with all of you.Cheers DarrenDubbing twisters and Bodkin.
  23. The key to working out any fish is persistance and then retain what you learnt along the way. Also keeping a fishing diary has been known to help aswell.Cheers Darren
  24. Yeah mate tied and invented by me. I haven't found too many fish refuse it yet.Cheers DarrenThat fly is so good that even J.W tried to copy it and I tried to swindle a free sample.. and I dont even own a fly rod at this point in time. I want to try and use it patternoster style on a dropper on the reds. I have to watch that little Kiwi sheep shagger he's always rummaging through my flyboxes. I just give him the ones with poo on them so he doesn't catch anything with them The Snapper like them aswell but I haven't scored one over 3kgs with them yet but I'll keep trying.Cheers Darren
