  1. cheers, i mite look them up and give them a call, dont suppose anyone has a contact number do they? i will have to get it posted out as i live in Whyalla
  2. cheers for that, i might give them a ring. what do these older issues generally go for (assuming reasonably good condition), bout $10? $50? $2?
  3. hello all, was just wondering if anyone on here has issue 31 of SA Angler lying around somewhere? I saw a pic of the cover on the SA Angler facebook page and am very interested to read the story entitled "Whyalla's Mulloway". anyone who has a copy of this magazine or knows of somewhere i can get it i would be very appreciative. all i'm after is to read the story and see what it says, if someone does have it they could maybe scan it or take a series of photos of it and email it through to me. im not holding my breath as the magazine is about 30 years old but just putting the call out.
  4. i dont reckon u could cast out from shore to the rip but there are quite a few productive locations to try for snapper landbased around the area. if u go down cuttlefish drive just pick a spot that u think looks good and u will be in with a chance. the most well known spot is of course Black Point, that is where i generally try for Snapper landbased and have had some success there, if u want to catch a landbased snapper that is where i would go if i were u
  5. lol now i look at it Dan C ur probably correct. is that what u meant Homer?
  6. Ditto that, making my casting arm twitch just looking at some of these photos!might have to start a thread on your most satisfying or against the odds catch, im sure there would be a few crazy stories to surface like the one Jack mentioned in another thread of a 10kg snapper taken on a size four hook whilst fishing off the outer harbour breakwall for bream!
  7. i forgot about the yak brigade, i have never tried that style of fishing but u make it sound pretty good Ranger, my missus has been wanting to get a kayak for ages, might have to seriously consider it i think
  8. hey, i was just sitting back having a think about my last year of fishing and the different places/types that i have done. i have fished from a boat, the rocks, the beach and the jetty. i would have to say on consideration that this last year my greatest enjoyment has come from the rocks. my first real rock sesh came here in Whyalla with rocknev about a year ago and as he said at the time, its the challenge of fishing them that makes it so enjoyable and when you do land a fish, especially a decent one, it just seems like much more of an achievement than it does out of a boat.dont get me wrong,
  9. hey all, my mate and i are thinking of towing the boat from Whyalla to Pt Augusta since the weather is supposed to be pretty crappy. we were thinking of chasing some bream mainly and maybe setting a livie for a Mulloway, maybe some squid and whiting, we're not really sure as neither of us have fished Pt Augusta. I am just after some general info about the waters such as sandbars or anything else we should look out for as well as a general point in the right direction as to where would be a good area to have a chance of catching something/anything.
  10. do u reckon that would work in reverse? i been hunting for flathead around Whyalla and seen some flounder, i might try some hardbodies and see if i can rustle up some interest from a nice lizard
  11. pretty sure that today is a new moon mate, biggest tide of the cycle. i reckon they would bit although having never targetted them i cant tell u for sure
  12. cheers Scaley Tom, thats what i thought, all the snapper i have got in there have been on the tide change as well. what sort of anchor do u have?
  13. got my first legal landbased Snapper off Black Point about a month ago, went 70cm and bout 4.5kg. finally got around to uploading the photo, needless to say i was pretty happy with it
  14. went out for a quick sesh on the rocks straight after work with a mate and we got a nice pan sized snapper each from about 2 hours of fishing. he is just cooking it up now
  15. yea we normally try to fish roughly just out from the lighthouse, i try to fish the edge or just in the rip rather than smack bang in the middle so it varies from around 50ft thru to about 90ft. i reckon that i might try a grapnel anchor next time and see how that goes, i have pulled up all sorts of coral looking stuff on both my snapper lines and also my anchor so maybe that will hold better...i shall try and post how i go. i like that idea about marking distance on the anchor rope, i think i am going to try that.
  16. i do a fair bit of snapper fishing in the rip at Pt Lowly and can never seem to get my anchor to hold. i try to fish it around tide changes so the current is at its least forceful but can never seem to get my anchor to hold. my boat is a 17ft haines hunter and the anchor i have been using is one of those sand anchors, not sure of the correct name for it. i have about 15-20ft of chain and i have tried letting out heaps of rope, bugger all rope and all lengths inbetween. i know that other boats hold anchor in there coz we go drifting past them, slower than i would if i hadnt dropped the anchor b
  17. i have 3 Shimano Symetre 2500 reels, the newest one i bought about 2 weeks ago and matched it too a Shimano Jewel. i have 2 Jewel's as well, i think for the price they are great rods, would highly recommend them
  18. Got a 6 kilo snapper in the Rip at Pt Lowly early this morning, gunna head out again off Whyalla tomorrow morning and try my luck, want to get my sis her first snapper before she heads off overseas for a year
  19. nice one, cheers, im back in Whyalla now but will try some of those drops over xmas
  20. we are about to head out now, we will see how it looks and go from there, cheers for the info
  21. Im thinking about hitting up Tapley Shoals tomorrow for some KG's but never been out there before, anyone got any tips they can offer about fishing it?
