  1. Disregard that first link, here's the new chart! Will cost about $5 to get it done in color and laminated at officeworks. New PIRSA chart 2013
  2. good idea ruff, my cats will even chase and catch a sinker thinking it's a mouse; so be careful!
  3. i don't really use plastics much, but if you're using mono, a good quality 6lb or lighter; braid i wouldn't go higher than 10lb. If you're casting light heads or in windy conditions 4lb/8lb respectively would probably be as heavy as i'd go.
  4. yeah, i've always found kmart to be a bit lax when it comes to hooks, line, lures etc; big w has always been better in that respect!
  5. Update on the Kmart tackle situation:Bought the JW bullseye 6'10" rod and the Fin Noir FP2000. Put it all together and i must say i'm very impressed with this combo! the FP is a nice little reel for the money at $49 and the rod a steal at $35, it balances beautifully too, right on the front grip.On the docs that come with the rod, JW recommends the FP4500 with this rod, but it would probably have inferior balance compared to this combo, and would look out of place on this 2-4kg rod; also the FP2000 has plenty of drag as it is!Hope this helps next time anyone looks in there for a new rig!
  6. Hey guys n gals,Thought i'd share a link to the latest PIRSA size chart. Print it out, laminate it and bring it out each time you go fishing; makes life so much easier! here's the direct link, as it's pretty hard to navigate the website to find it normally.PIRSA 2 page size chart
  7. Hey guys n gals,Was in Kmart yesterday picking up some sinkers and noticed a couple of things.Saw a nice 1 piece 6'10" jarvis walker estuary rod with a slowish action, but a good weight rating of 2-4kg (looks like it'd do well with some braid)Also, saw the fin-noir firepower reels, which are well priced and beefy looking!Anyone had any experience with kmart stuff? any stories, good or bad?
  8. That's an epic mully indeed, Must be older than you mate!
  9. Hey Kadava,How about an alvey setup?
  10. Hey keen,I've found that the best way to treat my fish is to break the main artery and snap the neck as soon as i unhook them, then put them in a big bucket of seawater to bleed out.For me, when I'm about to leave I gut them all and check their stomach contents (you can record this if you wish) and put them in a fresh batch of clean seawater to bring em home.Personally i scale mine at home, but exposing them to tap water seems to affect the flavour, so next time I'm gonna just freeze em; the scales will probably give some protection against freezer burn since i don't have any vacuum seal bags.
  11. thanks again cal, sounds like the rod for me! I'd love rob to custom build one for me; but my money tree only just sprouted!
  12. sounds pretty good to me cal! Couple of questions though:1: How low is the winch mount?2: What is the weight rating of the rod?
  13. Hey boys and girls,Just picked up an Alvey star drag reel about a week ago and i'm now in the process oftrying to find a suitable rod, i've looked at the Bruce alvey special, the live fibreand the snyder glas so far and they all look decent, not sure about the cast weights, but they seem to max out at about 45g.So, any of you beach and rock fishos have a favourite rod for the alveys? i'm not veryinformed on these kind of rods but i have a few essential requirements:1: Has to be a 2 piece rod2: Specific alvey, low winch design3: 13' is about as big as i want to go4: $200 or less is preferableAny
  14. So henley, grange, tennyson and sema seem like good spots! Gonna give it a go soon, will post results hopefully..
  15. Hi guys n gals,I haven't gone worming before and was wondering about a few things?1.Can it be done on a dodge tide?2.Does the beach in question have to have decent size waves?3.Are there any hotspots for worming? in the metro area?Outer Harbour looks good in theory, but i'm told even Glenelg is good. Any experiences to share? Success stories? Methods that work?I've searched the forums but found nothing definitive on worming at all, any input would be great!
  16. Nothing a bit of bog can't fix?So everyone seems to at least have squid jags, soft plastics and HB lures on any given trip. One question: do you guys have them pre-tied onto a leader, or just in their little boxes or bags ready to tie? The only knot I bother with while I'm out is the 2 knots for the swivel to main line if I get busted off or snagged, I leave most of the knot tying for home under good light with warm hands!
  17. Hi guys n gals,Just wanted to get an idea about how we all fish in this forum, how many people use pre tied rigs and snelled hooks? Or do you prefer to make all your own rigs? What kind of tools and equipment do you bring? What's your 2 cents on being prepared for fishing? is there anything in particular that you can't go without on your trip? For me, I always have on hand:1. At least a few pre-rigged general lures, no matter what species I'm targeting2. Snelled hooks of various size3. A few float rigs, with changeable hook sizes4. Running sinker and pat rigs of various sizes, with changeable s
  18. Tying rigs at home with a couple brews is great fun! Been using running sinker rigs with a snelled, beaded no.4 long shanks myself. Are those Sabiki's any good? I've seen them cheap at Kmart lately..
  19. Those look quite good, nylon webbings for the shoulder straps and plastic hardwareby the looks of it, check to make sure the stitching is all good, if not it'll beeasy to repair.I like that the knees aren't reinforced, the stitching on my waders is too thinand is starting to cut into the neoprene and loosen. I'd say go for it if you haven't already bought em!
  20. Yikes! what's the bet that the reel would break at thebattery housing in about a week?
  21. Never had any guff from fishing tackle store staff. BCF Gepps Cross and the Magill Got One have particularlygood staff; you would have to be a pretty abrasive kindaguy not to get along with them haha!
