If we all leave a place better than we found it imagine the world we'd live in. Personally I feel if you stay or camp somewhere you could not only clean up your own mess, but help clean up after those too stupid to consider it themselves. If others happen to spot you helping clean another site after someone has left then maybe it'd have a ripple effect. I know it has on me. Ignoring rubbish is almost as bad as leaving it yourself.

I love Port Rickaby, plenty of Gar and Squid off the jetty. Never caught KGW off the jetty itself but have from barkers rocks and also YFW, ST's and Flathead (altho no legal lizards... yet!). There's lots of reef to fish off also when the tides right. Hopefully going there this weekend actually

The biggest redfin I've caught was when I'd stopped all together and went to grab a beer. I've found they'll grab it when it's not moving it all, so do a few hops to get some attention then let it play dead for a few seconds and see if that helps. Feels real good getting your first fish on an SP, once you pop that cherry then it starts gettin fun!

Thanks for the tips guys, after removing the entire gizzards of a 28cm KGW due to a little tug to see if I could free the hook (honestly didn't look that bad... well before I got it out) i started cutting them off, including on a Flathead I caught, but I wasn't sure if I was causing just as much damage but as you all have said cutting seems to be the way. Hi guys,Just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to handle fish that have swallowed a hook deep? Is it worth messing about trying to remove it or is it best to sometimes cut it off as much as possible and leave it in? Does anyone know about how this affects the fish later etc? There's nothing worse than releasing a fish to watch it go belly up. Even when I use pliers to crush the barb before rigging up sometimes they're just impossible to get out with injuring the fish...

I agree with Jack that financially if you're realistic about your boat there's no excuse about not getting out. I paid $1800 for an old fibre glass 14.5ft bellboy baracuda with a 25hp forward steer and its a fantastic boat and really easy to launch. Does just over 40kmph when its flat calm. People that spend tens of thousands on a boat aren't eligible to claim that they can't afford to use it... I think its just the silly season rush and work that's been keeping the ramps quiet. It's going to be CRAZY in 2 weeks time!

These are probably the hardest weeks of the year for most people to get out and it has been a bit breezy. Drove down there after work this arvo, done it during low-tide. Got 900 between 3 in about an hour and a half - just using out hands and feet. Occasionally thought we were onto a cluster to find out it was a sand crab haha. The last half hour was crazy none of us even had to move just stayed in the same spot with our feet in the same holes and they came to us. Taking the mrs and one of her friends so that'll get my numbers up but I wont have heaps of time and really just doing it more for the experience. I reckon I paid something like $18 for 1kg of cockles last year (from Ards) for bait so It wouldn't take many to pay for the fuel there... plus sunshine, beach and beer - I can't think of anything better really
