  1. Yeah mate, was Southern area.I hear you, I thought it was a joke but my mate guaranteed me that when they "come on" it wont matter what is on the hook, sure enough, frozen heads of old tommy's and whiting, insane! Pieces of cuttle fish that have been in the sun all day, crazy!Plenty of berley, pillies and sauries, and tuna pellets worked a treat for us.I couldn't believe it!As for the depth Jags, we were only in about 24 foot
  2. Yep did alright mate, had an insane hour and a bit when every cast was getting nailed, this spot is insane, hence the reason only 3 people know about it
  3. Yeah Brent, was great. How'd you fare with your snapper outing the other week mate?Alex, I tried plastics prior to them being on the chew, when they were on the chew I didn't have a change to grab my other rod as as soon as a fresh bait hit the water it was hammered!Insane stuff
  4. I didn't expect my braid to get tangled one eye beneath the tip last night either lol, WITH A FISH ON! Thankfully only a rugger or I never would've untangled, anyway, ended up untangling and landing the same fish,

  6. thanks bud.Pretty much anything was getting hammered from OLD (and I mean OLD) Tommy heads /whiting heads to cuttlefish and sauries / pilliesps Apparently legal snapper reach 38cm at approx 6 years of age
  7. urhookedfish wrote: I have a feeling mine it a glass build.? Sensitive but not graphite sensitive... Quite soft in the top and I wouldn't pick it for a fast action rod. Pretty gutsy and good value at one hundred bucks but thinking the step up might be the way to go.Thanks for the recommendation. Will check them out
  8. Bagged out last night, great fun!The best went 63, here is half of the catch
  9. I've got a Penn Sports rod (6616001OHBM), rated 8-10kg interested to know what overhead rods people use to fish for snapper and the bigger boys.... gummy sharks etc. To be honest I didn't really like the tip on this rod when fighting big fish, too soft for my liking...My reel is a Daiwa Saltist 30HA Levelwind, spooled w 50lb braid which I know is overkill but helped me bag out on snapper yesterday Although I will admit is was much more fun on 20lb braid and a 3-5kg flick stick!Anyway, open to suggestions for a good snapper overhead Mine was about $100 from memory. Ta
  10. Yep, mylureshop awesome for local lures and service, not sure of his range in squid jigs tho. I get all mine from plat.co.jp

  12. So is this a big yabbie? I've never seen them this big!It was returned by the way, as all fish were but the carp and redfin
  13. This was my first redfin too BTW chuffed, we managed about 6 of them
  14. Ha. It's in the post Ranger Not really, I returned it, although the mrs wasn't happy when I told her I had!Caught it at Tailem Bend fishing for carp HAUm, on the PIRSA website it looks more like a cray to me, as it has 5 legs either side and not 3.... but most people still think it's a Yabbie thats eaten too much KFC growth hormones?
  15. Crayfish? or Yabbie? http://www.pir.sa.gov.au/fisheries/recreational_fishing/catch_limits_and_legal_lengths
  16. Had a nice day up river today, caught about 5 redfin, about the same amount of carp, and this big bstd! What is it tho? A big ass Yabby or what?
  17. Daiwa sensor surf rod and saltiga surf 6000 should do the trick for around 1k fully spooled
  18. Sweet, some good responses lads cheers - aprreciated, I will prob only do 10m or so of backing anyway.

    BACKING

Is it vital what kind of backing is used when spooling braid? Obviously you use mono, and I would assume of approx the same weight/diametre.... where do you get your backing from? I've previously used some cheap daiwa mono that you get from big W!Spooling up my stradic 3000 with 10lb and 20lb on the spare, wanting to know what to back up with? Any advice is appreciated :cheer:
  20. Yep, I've got a stradic 2500 FI for my bream reel, and a Stradic 3000 on the way for my snapper spin reel....I LOVE mine!
