  5. Hey There big nick .I seem to think back to being out on your boat I had no worries casting your 8weight or my 6 weight .And I had caught less fish back then .And thanks for the addiction to Salmon trout just can never get enough of them {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif You are very correct with your heavier flies and wind no way in the world. But that is the fun of learning .You learn what you can not cast and what you can.and buying flies for those that can not tie you learn what works and what doesn't.Something I learn't when I started WADING .It doesn't matter which way the wind blows if you can tur
  6. I changed from floating to a full sinking line last winter .Would have been nice if I had bought my waders last winter as well {SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gifI am hoping this winter to have a much better run at getting into the Salmon that haunt the lake.Have already caught a few Salmon Trout so far this year.Bream over winter are few and far between for me in the past.

  9. I did respond to this earlier but removed my response as it was inappropriate .Not going to say what I said before .How can you say loyalty to a fly fisherman in Adelaide there is hardly anyone who handles the stuff.well most stores do but they don't know alot about the products .Way back when i wanted to put line on my then NEW fly reel (it was a gift),I entered one shop(not the one I mentioned in the removed post) .First he said the price was $120 .He could see I was shaken with the price silly me thinking fly gear was not that dear {SMILIES_PATH}/embarrassed.gif.He went from $120 to $65 in
  10. Darren knows more than me and IMHO he is correct a 6 weight is all you really need in places like west lakes .But you will still get broken off from time to time {SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gif not looking in the mirror at any one {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gifSalmon Trout on a 6 weight fly with bait fish busting the surface and banging into your legs. And the ST'S grabbing your fly off the surface before it can sink .Nothing like it a great rush .Then the big fish grab your fly and your mono breaks {SMILIES_PATH}/embarrassed.gifI am sorry I can not put it any better in the written word.Just somethin
  11. Many years ago when I was a bait fisherman .I went fishing with my wives brother in law.We headed to torrens island for no luck .Went to the Torrens island market ate a burger (back when I could do that). This was when you could still fish at the market .some smart guy was throwing bananas in the water. No joke the fish came on the bite thick and fast for everyone fishing there.when the bananas sank they'd go quiet until he threw more in and it would start again.
  12. I can tell you Brenton the Bream eased up on my "green rubber band baitfish " flies when the weather changed. You know when it went from 40 something down to 18 the bream went quiet.
  13. I've already started buying every bream lure there is, and in every colour too {SMILIES_PATH}/rolleyes.gifSo Yak, the Bottom line is......Use a SMALL amount on your hook, and a LITTLE amount through your burley, and everyone is happyPerhaps you should move onto fly fishing for Bream Harder and lots of frustration oops I mean fun {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif
  14. Crab man a bit more info might help like what you will be fishing for like Trout ,Bream,Mulloway Murray Cod.

  22. Hey Wilma can I ask what the fish on the double header were ?Women /girls always out fish us guys .Some of us change to Salt water fly fishing so they lose interest {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif {SMILIES_PATH}/grin.gif (well not the real reason ).
  23. IMHO Its heading to that time of the year where its harder to catch Bream on artifical baits like flies and lures. This was the last fish I landed, and all I did was drop the fly amongst a school of fish from above!!
  24. Well done Luke I have been wondering about flathead in the lake . Then I scared one hell of a large one when walking along the footpath. Had a small one like you have caught try and take a fly.Monady last week I lost 6 squid on my flies the largest would have been around 30cms . Never knew Squid lived in the lake.I should add I caught Bream And St's on flies in the lake ,Bream on bait before I used flies.Been broken off by some big fish swimming with the st's .Seen A dead catfish in the lake of around 60cmsand have seen the odd flounder picked one up of a step and released it back in the water
