  10. Squidley, sorry to point out the obvious  the Australian agent will of course declare the product as he's am importer ;) this will load it with around 40% duty tax $312  don't forget, GST to be added another $109.10,  freight to the retailer?? $60?? :( :( thats now cost the aussie guy $1261, :woohoo: :woohoo: that would leave the fella on the end, the very one that carries the highest risk, and the very guy thats to provide service advice & backup if it shits itself $139 as his profit as he quoted $1400. :S :S He runs a store of some sort, employs people to put it into stock then retrieve it for you.  Would have thought thats not too greedy but compartive to the margins I get on $1000 product it's made me realize I'm in the wrong business.  Need to research a little further on vehicle parts importation, all cash of course so I can scam the duties that the Australian dealers are paying. Don't get me wrong here, I'd go the same way to save 600 bucks, but, it does highlight that we, us, Australia, has a problem. :( :( An ever increasing problem as the direct example you've just offered has just unemployed your next door neighbours kid  that could have run a warehouse & your other neighbour  (the bookeeper) & your sisters husband  , he is in fact a fantastic retail salesperson & over time has helped & pleased many hundreds of people. A few pollies will need to go (no harm here) as no duty was declared. :woohoo: :woohoo: The banks still got fat   as it was a credit card transaction so they still got their 1.8% for stuff all, but it gets worse yet, :silly: :silly: whos gonna fit the stuff   , the mechanic closed :S coz the kid, the bookeeper, the dad & the pollies all have no money to spend with him as maintenance on vehicles is a luxury item & is certain to go when things get tough.  The chat sites that were so helpful offering advice, feedback & opportunity to bounce ideas with others on your chosen products are also gone as theres no retailers left to sponsor them. All a bit sad really but I'm with you Squidley, I work far too long & hard to squander it so my 600 fat is still worth more than all the above sacrifices & none of it will change with the current softon pollies that we half elected or did we really elect them at all.  Guess we could all bottle River Murray water & put it into storage for the next drought that may help someone if not ourselves. ;) ;) Alan, would you be happy if Sportfishing Whyalla had nil stock of the stuff you need now???? Terowie, did you not read the thread earlier in this post re the margins Aussie retailers are already running on, that is of course running shopfronts??? Nothing offensive intended here readers, just a reality check & please pardon the pollie pun, couldn't help myself. Seeing & talking to many hundreds of people from all walks of life coming thru the shop I can absolutely testify that prior to the KRUDD07 RIP11 deal, we all as a society were far better off & I hate them all equally.Finatic

  11. I hear what you're saying Mark, selfishly for me though, it has given us a day off,Dub's get to celebrate his birthday & well he did.Used to do the grind Xmas day away from family & friends & for the most part just to serve ice, nearly a pallet in '05 & '06now next to the servo with a pallet on the driveway, well,at least y'all can access some, slushy as it may be& I get a day with the kids.Finatic

  12. Kayakfisher, the original Aussie made Strudwicks were very good, the later chinese, well, Snapsticks may describe them better.I'll take your BCF voucher, for that matter I'll take any competitors voucher.Merry Xmas.Finatic

  13. Ditto boys & girls, we've had them & sold out fasttrying to replenish stocks now buy to no avail until FebruaryIf you want one I'd suggest layby it fast to guarantee stock.Electric models are plentiful but @ $499 they are not cheap.Merry Xmas.Finatic

  14. If I read it properly you suggested using a wind on, if this is the case & you are using braid, tie a bimini twist to create a double then a tanaka loop to join the 2. See us instore if you don't know how to tie them, shall gladly show you but don't leave it till 23rd or 24th as half the population do to start their Xmas shopping.Finatic

  15. WOW, how is it that I've missed being in the middle of a burner? :woohoo: OH, I forgot, I've been trying to make a buck with my massive markups while the Xmas cheer & spirit is here.  B@K said & don't get me wrong I'm not here to slam youit's interesting when people start throwing around 'mark-up' as though it's some disease. The notion that a 100% markup is clear profit is a joke.100% mark-up on a product = 50% Gross Profit.66% mark-up = 40% Gross profit. Now, out of that gross profit, all running costs must be taken out to leave you with a net profit. And you have a stock level around $50,000 plus paid for and sitting the shelf.well a little incorrect my friend, that was B4 the GST era  so now 100% markup is in fact only 44% GPProfit is actually not a dirty word, we all exist because of it, just seems a little in the favor of the wrong people when bank bosses that in fact do little other than oversee their workers cash in on multi million dollar a year deals while you & I struggle away at $30 bucks an hour & get the same value speeding ticket for the pleasure of going to work.Stock levels are an interesting thing to discuss from a tackle trade view point, simply if we don't have something you guys want, we can't sell it. Y'all expect us to carry whatever it is you're looking for & fair enough too but it has to pay its rent on our shelves. So from a business perspective, why would we want to sit on a Stella, Tiagra, Saltiga, International or any other high end or frequently bastardized product while we all, that is you & me as an individuals, not us as retailers, can buy them offshore on the internet for $200 less than we as dealers buy them for from the Wholesale trade in Australia & then remember plus GST for us of which none of y'all are declaring when these things come in from Plat, Meltons, Bass Pro etc.If I make an example, I buy a Saltiga for $899 but thats not the end, plus GST now makes it $988.90, now click on another tab & google a Saltiga to find that you can buy it for $760 USD have it delivered to your house in 4 days, don't declare the value over $400 & get it duty free if you don't get caught. Why don't I buy from overseas myself then onsell it to my business you may well ask. The answer lies in the very real risk of Warranty as this post started to advise, not to mention top end stuff being serial numbered so the wholesale trade knows the origin of its sale. Then of course to risk losing access to these products by backdooring the very companies that spend their millions on advertising & in turn drawing people into our stores to touch those very products. Not cool.Anyhow, my reel still sits on its shelf & assuming I bought it on an overdraft coz money costs money, it now owes me $1030 that model sells in Australia for $1050, so, ask yourself would you invest $1030, to, at a chance of getting your money back maybe one day, make $20?If you've just answered yes, please come see me as I could use about $200k at the minute & @ .02% interest I'd love to do business with you. I have many a Shotgun, Crossbow & Pistol to buy, these of course cannot be bought on the internet so my investment has some sort of protection.Finatic

  16. Carps, from the outside looking in, took this in July 2008,castles july 2009.jpg at that time you could walk across the river & not get your kneecap wet.Now that bank in the background is about to breach with about 3m more water up it than back then.Good luck hope not too much a mess is made & Merry Xmas in the attic.Finatic

  17. Sorry for the confusion, they may well have mainstream bibbed minnows available to all of mankind & by the sounds of the quality that's why we don't have them. Quite simply the Chinese do not develop product they merely copy somebody elses & make it cheaper. The product developed for us ie Tackleworld stores is meticulously scrutinized & thoroughly tested prior to it reaching our shelves, if its not good enough for us, its not good enough for you & it does not make it to our stores. The squid jags we've had for a little over 14 months are & will continue to be fantastic & are available at prices competitors envy. These new Red heads have been developed purely for Adelaide as they do not sell anywhere else in the country. The Yoki lures are a blast on Bream, Jewies & Redfin, once again these were developed for us, kind of a snapper jig style of lure right down to 7 grams.LOX rods that many of you have seen & purchased are unequalled at the prices these land at, 40 ton modulus graphite & fitted with Fuji's best, the models have been made specifically to our specs, not by some generic chinese rod roll machine. Many other models are available to the general trade at significantly higher pricing ie Nitro, Black Diamond etc These are touched by far too many importers & wholesalers b4 arriving at the rod rack thus the pricing is far too high, we go direct to the factory to get the build & actions the way they should be at the price they should be at.A lot of work & field testing goes into this stuff for months prior to release so we know you are getting quality product & best yet as we go direct to the manufacturer it cuts 3 or 4 commissions off the end sale price for you & still allows us a margin.Back to bibbed minnows, we have STRADA lures, some still in development stages, being manufactured by Megabass for our local scene, Bream, Snook, Trout (both varieties) etc. We have had many to test & trial & to date quality is fantastic but the $AUS to the YEN has made the end price still a little high so few models are currently available in small stuff, theres plenty of Barra / Offshore stuff that sells well interstate but still a limited range for us down in the swamp. For the converted.Finatic
