Builder Chosen For New Jetty |
RAPID BAY - Almost three and a half years after it was closed to the public, plans for a new Rapid Bay Jetty have edged a step closer, with the design and construction contract being awarded last week. The State Transport Minister, Patrick Conlon, announced that South Australian civil engineering and construction firm Bardavcol won the contract, a year after tenders for the project closed. Rated as one of the country's top 10 diving spots and built in 1940, the existing jetty was closed in December 2004 after it fell into disrepair. Plans to build a $3.9 million new jetty were announced in September 2006, after the local community rallied for the future of the jetty. Glenice Galbraith, a spokesperson for the Friends of the Rapid Bay Jetty, said a petition raised 6000 signatures indicating state-wide support for the jetty. |

Yorke Peninsula Report 19/6/08 |
Point Riley – There are still reports of some Squid and Salmon coming in from the rocks at Riley. Use Pilchards for bait or any of the metal lures. Yellowfin Whiting are being caught from most of the beaches at Riley using Bloodworms for bait. Wallaroo Jetty – Yellowfin Whiting have been caught in the shallows of the jetty along with some Squid. Tommies (Australian Herring) and some small Snapper have been caught at the fence. The end of the jetty is still closed and at the moment we have not heard when it will be open again as there has been delays with loading the ship that is in. There have also been some Snook caught from the end of the Spur Jetty. |

Metropolitan Report 30/5/08 |
Hi Folks, it’s been a little while since the last report and the local fishing has been matched by the variable weather we’ve had of late. Tales of good King George Whiting catches have come and gone; then come again! The local Salmon Trout have frustrated those chasing them from rock-wall to rock-wall, while simultaneously managing to make life very difficult for those trying to catch a Bream or two. Things have slowed considerably on the Snapper front as the water begins to cool more, meanwhile the local Mulloway continue to promise excitement for those anglers willing to put in the hard yards! |
