Six-month rego makes fishing, jet skiing more affordable
A re-elected Labor Government will introduce a six-month boat registration option effectively halving the cost of registration for people who only use their boats in the summer months.
Premier Jay Weatherill said the six-month registration option will be available for vessels up to 7 metres in length, as well as jet skis.
“About 236,000 people participate each year in recreational fishing in South Australia as well as water skiing, jet skiing and other activities,†Mr Weatherill said.
“Many of SA’s 59,000 registered boat owners only use their vessels during summer and put them away in the winter.
“By offering a six-month fee option we will provide a significant saving on registration costs, easing the cost-of-living pressures for thousands of recreational boat users.â€
Under Labor’s six-month boat registration option:
- Owners of vessels up to 6m will save up to $37.50 for new registrations and up to $26 for renewals.
- Owners of vessels greater than 6m up to 7m will save $83 for new registrations and $70.50 for renewals.
- Jet ski owners will save $154 for new registrations and $141 for renewals.
The new registration option covers more than 93 per cent of registered vessels in the State and is part of a recreational fishing package described on pages 130-131 of Labor’s Plan for South Australia 2014 – 2018.
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Tom Koutsantonis said boat owners will be able to apply online through EzyReg for the six-month registration option.
“This provides vessel owners with greater flexibility and affordability when paying for their registrations,†he said.
