bjorn2fish 4,612
I know it's illegal I tried to import a cigarette lighter and it was confiscated by customs Didn't actually realise at the time it was a not allowed.
pikk0n 2
Hmm.... I thought knives are allowed into Aus. I know weapons aren't but cooking utensils shouldn't be an issue if you have them in your check-in luggage. I'm more familiar with food though.
bjorn2fish 4,612
I thought you weren't allowed but this customs link kinda suggests it's only certain types of knives http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4369.asp#e1066
Del 245
ive bought a fillet knife in from ebay saler from over seas had no issues..
T BONE 1
As long as they are legal here then there are no problems. Have bought a few knives from the U.s & Germany in the past & arrived without any dramas at all, these where folding filleting knives.
Sharkey 0
I've bought a number of knives from OS - all good as long as they're not prescribed weapons. (Butterfly, Flick or spring assisted knives etc)I doubt you'll have any issues at all with a fillet knife.

Just Me 0
No problems here either. Imported some nice knives in the past and the missus bought over some knives for me in her luggage just recently. Can get some great deals like Leathermans at half the price of over here. Tonka 1
Yes agree with all of the above. So long as they are legal here you won't have any problems, and all the info is on Customs website.A guy at work bought a nice big knife from the US but it was confiscated by customs and all he got was a letter in the mail. Double-edged blade.. No cash refund either!
thefunkychicken 0
You'll have no problems importing a reasonable style of knife into Australia. The problem with the cigarette lighter is that they are not allowed on an aircraft unless they are carried on the owner's person - and Zippo style lighters with unabsorbed liquid fuel are totally prohibited.
