magging a reel

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,I have a really good condition old penn longbeach 60 ally spool holds a nice amount of line for bottom bashing and runs some nice drag, i enjoy using the reel but i have alot of issues with it over spooling on me, resulting in the next step of a birds nest, the eagle nest. I was wondering if any of you guys have magged a reel before and if anyone knows who sells all sorts of magnets in adelaide as its not something i have looked for before. Cheers.

As spinyeel said, stripersonline is a great site, used to frequent it when I lived in the US, heaps of guys on there run magged Penn Squiders. That being said, I am a big fan of overheads and have played around with a few magged ones, and to be honest you really don't need it, learning to apply the correct pressure with your thumb is the best way to go imo. But there are heaps of people who love magged reels, so each to their own I suppose. Good luck!

Have a look on Alan Tani's site about magging ,but really i rekon you should be able to thumb the spool when your casting. Also correctly adjusting the tension on the spool and using the right amount of weight(sinker) are key .I have a longbeach 68 , can easily cast over 60 meters. The drags on lonbeaches arnt the best ,same as penn squidders.
