wishing2Bfishing 0
i was just wondering if anyone knew if there are still any Yellowfin Whiting around or am i gunna have to wait until it warms up again? i have never targeted them before and was thinking of giving it a go this weekend if they are still on the chew. i was gunna have a go off of the foreshore at Whyalla so any info including rigs, bait, times to go etc would be great
snapper15.4kg 67
There is still a fair number of fishers catching YFW on the foreshore at Whyalla. When you go, look for where the fishers are, as the fish do move about. Most go when the tide is 2 mts. and above. There is an odd mullet about. wishing2Bfishing
wishing2Bfishing 0
cool cheers, im gunna go dig some seaweed worms for bait as well i reckon. just gunna take my cousin down, he is pretty keen to catch a couple so we shall give it a go and see what happens snapper15.4kg
Savagelip 4
fresh s.a gulf prawns are good for yfw wishing2Bfishing
wishing2Bfishing 0
yea? i mite nose around and see what i can get, it's more of an exploratory fish than a hardcore assault, ive never targeted them so i reckon i will take a few different baits down and see whats working for me. in terms of rigs, would you recommend a lightly weighted paternoster or one hook above the sinker, one hook below or what? size 4 hooks not to big? excuse the ignorance, like i said, YFW virgin
snapper15.4kg 67
Paternoster with 1 hook below sinker and 2 above. Some use a running sinker, I use burly spring sinker. Some curry in the burly. size 4 is what I use.......long shank. The cuttlefish make good bait as well wishing2Bfishing
wishing2Bfishing 0
no worries, i will give is a go and report back
Savagelip 4
i like to use a running rig with a bean sinker a swievel half a metre of trace line then a long shank hook just incase they're finicky, although a paternoster rig should work just aswell if active.. wishing2Bfishing
wishing2Bfishing 0
i might rig my cousins with the paternoster and mine with the running sinker and just play around, see what works.

Des 830
I target them a lot in the St. Vincent Gulf - north of Adelaide.I don't know much about around Whayala as I have never fished there. Some of my posts on YFW (Goldbars) may help give you some info as I think they do not change behaviour much between the gulfs. … aaah! But you should know.
