newtontoney 57
Has anyone got additional kayak mounts on a standard car roof rack ? what brands are good ? I have a standard front and rear style car roof rack as apposed to side roof racks ,looking to fix some kind of fitting to the standard roof racks to enable me to safely hold a kayak, if that makes sense ? can anyone please point me in the right direction for quality brands etc ? as I say, I already have the roof rack fitted to the car, just need additional fittings to hold yak properly . cheers
keenfisho 1,416
ive never used extra parts to hold my yaks even the huge heavy proangler used to be chucked up there and strapped down with a rope to the front of car for peace of mind newtontoney and pauly s
Kuerschie 2,309
My kayak is simply turned upside down with equal nose and tail overhang at each end. Haven't had a problem with my 9fter tied down with two ratchet straps going 110 along the freeway. If you're after a secondary support or similar, have a look at Rhino Racks or Rolla branded ones. newtontoney and pauly s

Kelvin 2,200
How much do you want to spend? I used to just flip my yak upsidedown on the roof racks. I have now upgraded to a Thule Hulavator
newtontoney 57
price not an issue but obviously don't want to fork out unless have too.
Kelvin 2,200
Any roofrack will hold a yak, the main thing will be getting good tie downs and if travelling at speed or long distance also securing the bow and stern. The hullavator is a luxury as it saves your back and you only have to lift the yak to waist height. But they cost more than some cheap yaks. pauly s
keenfisho 1,416
here is the new loading unit i got to hopefully make loading the new yak easier the rear roller pulls out so i will just have to lift the front of the yak onto the roller and push it on now to pick it up Monday pauly s and Kuerschie

keenfisho 1,416
yeah pauly the snook have been going well for a long time now first trip will be a west lakes with the family for fathers day. then have the monday off work so might take it for a run down glenelg way yell out if ya wanna catch up for a fish mate. also just be careful if using rachets not to over tighten them as they can cause issue on the joins on the plastic yaks
