coonta kinta 1
I'll bet he doesnt own a boat ;DNice find Cal, interesting to watch and makes one wonder about the possibilities with correctly & finely tuned tackle. Interestingly though, and I may have missed it, there was no mention of the type of breaking strain of both the lines.

afishyfish 4
Im surprised how high up he holds the rod as the line peels out.Wouldnt he get less spool resaistance with the rod more horizontal ?
EddieMacSqid 0
Coonta,On a tournament casting forum Tommy quoted that he was using 0.35mm (15lb) mono on the overhead and significantly smaller diameter braid on the spinner for the tests. Both setups used an 80lb mono leader with around 8 wraps on the spool to take the shock of the cast.Tommy is a world class caster and regularly goes over 250 meters on the field. afishyfish,Your right in thinking that to minimise resistance you need to point the rod at the path that the lead is taking rather than up at the sky.The reason why Tommy holds the rod at such a steep angle is because that is the angle that he launches the lead. The rod is pointing at exactly where the lead and line is going.Casting with the wind, (as seen in the video):The lead is launched at around 40 degrees to horizon for maximum distance. The lead travels upwards until it reaches its apex and then travels downwards. The higher you get the lead the further the lead will carry on its downward path.Casting against a moderate wind,The lead is launched at around 30 degrees to horizon. You need the lower angle to punch the lead into the wind but still get height for the added distance on the decent.Casting into a gale,Punch the lead low otherwise the wind catches your line and kills the distance.Hope this explains it.Eddie
