flats frishing for carp

hey all, just a quick one.went out today to get some carp, 'some' being the word. 7 hours later I finally caught the doughnut breaking fish and called it a day. weighed in at 5.5kg on the digi scales. a nice fish, spotted him feeding, layer the cast out, strip strike and an interesting fight for 5-7mins on a 5# in and out of submerged trees and shrubs and reeds, around the boat and under the boat and around the lekie. lolbut what a tough day. the wind was up and the sun patchy. carp as far as you could see. none of them feeding though. they were all spawning and would swim into you so hard they give you a hell of a fright, visibility was far, far from ideal. 3-4in of visibility. you would lose sight of a 7kg carp in shin deep water.

Nice fish!I saw your video on youtube a little while back and posted about it in the freshwater section. Looks like so much fun fishing for carp like that!

@spog777 your not wrong there lol! esp when you get the good stuf. and i thought diawa saltiga stuf was expensive lol@brett was hard work and frustrating but yeah was nice to be out on the boat again. oh and actualy catch someting over 8"

this is the fly ive been using lately, seen fish move upto a meter to get it in dirty water, not the best qual pic, but basicly red marabou, segmented with flashabou, bead chain eyes and a black hackle collar.

Hi JohnWent down the river on the long weekend to try the carp on fly only got 2 about the same size as urs bit like u said real hard fishing just a quick question but dose any one no how long the spawning cycle lasts so they come back on the chew ?Cheers matty

no idea aye, ive never seen them spawn before. wouldnt say more than a month though, but then the prob then is they will be hard to find in the murky/milky water
