    BACKING

I usually like to keep an eye out for anything cheap (& generally nasty) in the sale bins in tackle stores & the like purely for use as backing. As others have said try & keep it a similar breaking strain & dia. as your braid mainline if possible. I have that many leftover half filled spools of mono. lying around from spooling reels I just use whatever is close most of the time.
  2. What have you heard in regards to fish species caught off the marks & do they produce regularly?

  4. gardy wrote: Yep have to agree with your comment, majority of the metro. marks are found without too much hassle at all. So cant really see a problem with a fellow fisho trying to help out other members. watersnake - Have sent you a PM.
  5. Iam hanging for Issue 7, read all of 6 from cover to cover within about a week. Whens 7 expected to arrive, hopefully not too much longer? :silly:
  6. Hi all, I just got a good deal on a Sol 3000 reel & Iam looking for a rod to match it up with. Will be using it for chucking around big plastics for Snapper & other large reef species (hopefully). Was thinking about a matching Sol rod in the 10-17lb medium/heavy range. What do you guys reckon, sound o.k or should a step it down to a 8-14lb rod?Edit - Think I just posted in the wrong section, can mods. please move to "the rod shop" if possible.

  8. Hmmm, I wonder why my PM's are not working?? Have sent one other to another member & I dont think that sent either? ???Weaver - thanks for going to the trouble of taking the pics. & posting them up. Nice looking rod (have checked out the Hot Rods website prior & they make some nice gear), sure you would have been a bit upset when you broke it! :icon_eek: I have however decided to bite the bullet myself & are in the process of getting something made up too.
  9. Those two are my favourite colours also, pity the lime greens arnt cheap to replace though!
  10. weaver, sent you a PM. Not sure if it went through or not as I havent done one before. Let me know anyway if there was any problems.Thanks.
  11. Thanks RogerG will check them out. Kelvin not sure what brand of yak exactly (just some cheapie job) but its fairly short & not really set up for fishing. So doesnt have alot of storage room or rod holders, hence the reason for chasing some rods that dont take up too much room as I wont be fishing out of it all the time. If I cant find something under 5' will most probably end up using something longer anyway but just thought I would first see what was available.
  12. Thanks for the reply, yes the Ugly Stik Gold rod is actually 4'6" 1-3kg. I already have one of those (for whiting e.t.c.) but was after something a little heavier if possible in the 3-6kg range.
  13. Hi all finally pulled my finger out & joined up to this forum! My question is that Iam chasing a couple of decent 4'6" spin rods for use in my new yak & was wondering where would the best place to go as I have had a look in a heap of tackle shops without too much luck.Anyone have any suggestions on what manufacturers make them or am I better off getting something custom made??
