  1. haha sorry I wasn't thinking when i wrote this... I was supposed to write 100lb! Hahaha that time of year... But yeah you reckon a double uni would work? I can't wait to attempt that with 100lb Possibly a mildly stupid question but how many turns would you do in each? I generally do 8 turns in mono and 12 turns in braid but i've never delt with mone quite this thick before :(Cheers
  2. Hey lads, my mate and i are headed to coffins soon and need a way to attach our wind ons to our main lines. Not really sure on the best knot.. Can anyone suggest what's best? I've looked into it a bit and it seems to be the cats paw? Meh i dunno Were looking at attaching 150lb wind-ons to 50lb braidThanks for your help
  3. I said the length could "come in handy" which doesn't really indicate anything specific. Two feet of length defintitely does add to casting distance but it also will help keep the line out of the surf. I understand there are many factors to a good cast but thats not what i'm asking...Will a 14 footer be more handy than a 12 footer? Obviously it means I can cast heavier sinkers which could prove useful on rougher days but what do people prefer?I absolutely intend on using an alvey rod bucket if i'm holding the rod or it will be in a rod holder so the extra weight the extra 2 foot will add is ne
  4. As i stated I personally was not sure on this brand as my experience with it has not been good. Personally see nothing wrong with asking for an opinon on lure materials and questioning it's construction. I have used a heap of different squid jags and by looking at one in the flesh you can see whether it will last or if it will fail. So don't condemn me for merely asking..Bouyancy and swimability are not everything when it comes to lures. The quality of materials and construction are AS important. As i did state I have not looked at these in person yet and that means until i do i'm going to ask
  5. I'm buying a sensor surf (medium/heavy) in the next few days and I can't decide between a 12ft or a 14ft...The 12ft casts 2-4oz and the 14ft casts 2-5oz and both recommend 20-40lb lineIf it helps at all i'll most likely be running this with a stradic 6000 with 30lb braid. I'm leaning towards the 14 footer as I reckon the length could come in handy..Any advice/opinions greatly appreciatedCheers
  6. Not to have a go but is this the same brand as the lures you get for free with modern fishing? Yoshikawa i think? Are they built well? All of the lures I have of theirs go straight in the bin. The bibbed minnows i have look like they were built for a total cost of 5c... One of mine even had a totally bent hook straight out of the packet...Must say though I have not looked at their jags yet!
  7. Bronzies still have been involved in attacks on humans so you can't deny they are still a possible threat (as is a tonne of other stuff out there) BUT.... its the ocean! We can't bloody control everything! I like spearfishing and its obviously a risk, I've encountered a white and a bronzie but I'm still kicking! If you're worried about sharks take your kids to a swimming pool :)I reckon there is nothing wrong with jetty sharkin and they are not coming in purely because of the lads fishing for them. The majority of people are idiots and as we are a minority we aren't going to have a say in this
  8. I've finally beaten my previous best of 43cm! It was accidentally caught on my whiting rod, which consisted of a $50 7ft shimano rod (stole it off the missus) and my new stradic ci4 2400 with 8lb braid. Performed brilliantly under the conditions and was a LOT bigger than the whiting I was expecting :woohoo: Measured 92cm and weighed a touch over 9kg (I'm a big dude and the fish is pressed against my chest so it doesn't look it ) It fought like you wouldn't believe and I now see why people are obsessed with catching these beasts! Bloody great fun :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
  9. Gentlemen :)I have another 2 questions for you that I can't seem to find answers for on the net so here they are....Question 1) If one were to go to greenly/rocky island jigging what variety of jigs would you take? I'm talking about size/weight and quantity, obviously you would fish to the conditions so i'm guessing up to 400gms. But are we talking say 4-5 of say 100gm, 200gm, 300gm and 400gms. I don't want to run out :woohoo: but I don't want to buy too many  Question 2) Does anyone on here have/know of a knife jig bag they would recommend? I need something to store them all in but t
  10. haha cheers monkey that was the ULTIMATE HIJACK! Start your own thread ya plum!Anyway back to MY thread. I reckon i'll prefer the larger reel and with 550 yards of 50lb it should smash a lot of things out there. Having spent the money I will definitely find a use for it for more than this trip so I have no trouble spending the money (working my ass off at the moment).Given any type of rod (no specifics, just use your imagination) what sort of fish can I knock off with this reel spooled with 50lb?
  11. Alrighty... I'm headed off to coffin bay with a big group of people in december and my mate has decided to come along who I think owns a proline 23ft express (It may not be the exact model but almost identical) So now there is no doubt we will go over to greenly :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: So i need to gear up for some (fingers crossed) INSANE fishing! My problem is how heavy do i need to go? I have sorted a rod for each but thats not the issue. Now I have narrowed my choices down to two reels...Option 1) Saltiga Expedition Z6500 running 80lb braidOption 2) Saltiga S-Extreme Z4500 running 50lb
  12. So... the shark just totally bit off his calf... i bet he is glad he was standing there Why tempt fate?
  13. I saw an advertisement for this book a month or two ago and completely forgot about it until I stumbled across it in my newsagent the other day. It is co-authored by Shane and Brett Mensforth and the quality of this book is second to none. The print and paper quality is brilliant considering this is just a small publication and the photos are fantastic addition and is very reasonably priced at $19.95. The information on the cover states that the book covers the most effective rigs, proven techniques, ultimate baits and the top lures that I can guarantee you it does cover these in depth in the
  14. Had forgotten about this So here it is.....The book is co-authored by Ben Knaggs and Shane Murton (Editor of Wildcoast Magazine) and is a 48 page A5 sized book solely describing angling on the Lower Eyre Peninsula. My initial thoughts were this book is no where near as big as I thought it would be and with a conservative amount of advertising in it thought it may be a lemon.... but! After reading through the book cover to cover it really is a very handy book to own. It contains very detailed information on roughly 15 areas around the lower eyre peninsula. With every bit of informtion you could
  15. Forgot I posted this. Haha was actually quite a funny dvd to watch, he sort of fumbled through it all but it was still quite an interesting watch! Glad to have it on the shelf.
  16. I had a look at the thunnus ci4 8000 yesterday and while I was impressed by its size (geez thats deep spool) I've realised I don't want the baitrunner option. I honestly wouldn't use the feature that often and I didn't realise how much length that it would add to the reel. A nice reel but not for me, so still on the hunt for a 6000 and an 8000 for after christmas...
  17. I found a tub in my mates boat the other day and I thought it was gents in that dark dirt....Until I opened the tub and copped not only a terrible smell but the tub was overflowing with dead fully mature flies... It wasn't pretty and it must have been there for months.Love keeping them in the fridge as they last forvever! But as SavageLip said you've just got to hope the missus doesn't throw them out!
  18. I'm just looking at grabbing some for the tacklebox for when i run out of bait or forget to grab some. It's not cheap but could save the day in an emergency!Has anyone ever used this instant stuff before? Just want to know if it is easy to use and if it actually works! Thanks fishersSquid
  19. I've not used them yet so I should probably give them a go. I just have them in my tackle box just incase I need bait an have run out or forgotten it. I've heard they work well so love having them as a standby bait! I'm keen to get some of that ultrabite instant bait too. Might start a new thread...
  20. LEGENDS! Cheers for the very helpful info! Hopefully i'll get amongst them in the next week or so
  21. Where can my mate and I go in a boat to find small sharks? Specifically gummies/bronzies or schoolies (haha not year 12's who have just finished school!).We tried grange tyre reef yesterday for whiting and sharks but didn't get any runs on the shark rods. Managed 2 nice whiting and a leathery as well as snapper on the whiting rods. It got ridiculous so we had to move a couple of times to avoid the snapper smashing our baits but they were that thick they couldn't be avoided. (Yes i'm aware of the ban, yes I'm aware you can't target them and no I was not specifically targetting them and yes they
  22. I love my pistol lip grips Makes life a lot easier when you don't have a net around. I initially bought mine for fishing in the torrens as I like to ride in. Very handy if you are running light gear and I love them when i'm wading and can't carry a net. Once the grips are on them they do not come off!Definitely worth investing in!
  23. AH NO!!!! I haven't even ordered them yet! Odds are it will be another week or two before i get around to it so let me know how they go fella
  24. haha maybe so.... but i can't see why these wouldn't go off! The lure with the school of baitfish on it should look exactly like that underwater. I dive a lot and have seen plenty of baitfish swim in tight formation like this so hopefully a winner! Also the one that looks like a gar will hopefully perform I have a similar lure from the same range and when you hold it it actually looks like there is a fish hidden inside the plastic, looks ultra realistic.Haha I'll never knock back an awesome looking lure!
