  1. In Google Earth if you look under the tools menu there is a ruler there you can use.. then click on you points and you will see the distance
  2. "Port-side prices in some lobster areas have plummeted from $80 per kilogram to $30 on news of the Chinese ban."If this is the case I hope they decide to ban Goolwa Cockles

look at local charts (one is AUS444) to the area as they will mention where areas of coral (marked as CO) are. Also look for immediate small rises in depth as they will be of harder bottom than the surrounding bottom. They are they as I can see them on my charts
  4. Let's hope so Kon .... thanks for enlightening me
  5. The main concern is going to be the harsh chemicals used to flush out the system
  6. I'll tell ya'll how to catch a snapper for ten bucksbuy a snapper rod n reel... tie on some snapper hooks... chuck half a pillie on and away you go! ..... now all you have to do is wait for a snapper to come along and then strike! :woohoo: :woohoo:Please send all monies c/o Fishie at Strike & Hookthanks fellas
  7. I tried down South and everyone seems to be on contract to Simms Metal and can't sell it to you. I had a relly source some for me from NSW for 95 cents a kilo. I've got 65 kilo to collect on my next trip over there
  8. AFF, how many times when you're out on the water do you see boats zooming around all over the place pinging every boat in sight..... what good does it do them when they have all these pinged spots on the chartplotter and I doubt if they ever return back again 'cos next time they're out on the water they'll probaby do it all over again. They're much better off spending their time constructively and putting in the effort on a couple of spots in a recognised area as most of our fish are migratory and will of course move through there
  9. brenton wrote: You're probably correct Brenton... it's the only spot I haven't got and just wanted to top off my collection Seriously tho' you only really need about 3 or 4 good working spots. Anymore than that and you just end up getting confused on where to fish on the day and if you miss out you always regret not fishing some other spot :S You're better off spending lot's of time working out the patterns of a few than chasing your tail all day and missing out
  10. Any one know anything about a ground further down the coast from O'Sullies called "Boltcutters"? PM me and I'll reciprocate some help. I know roughly where it isThanks..Fishie
  11. "I hope Fishie didnt get stabbed in the process !"Very funny AFF... we were using my best stabbing knife too! :S I normally just stick my finger nail in the split to open it up but those little critters are a different story
  12. Brenton I'll post the info off on monday and wait and see. Are you saying a recco or NSW DPI has tagged the fish in our waters as that seems a waste of time tagging one States tags into another States fish if that is the case
  13. That's for the gamefish tagging program Russell, I think this particular tag is a one off.. possibly even tagged by a reccoThe fish was 68cm and 3.67 kg
  14. I tried a snapper snatcher over on the Shoals once and out of 3 boats I was the only one that caught a snapper (18 pounder)Haven't used them since but they did seem to work that day
  15. without giving too much away... the ledges and gutters in that area that I reckon you are fishing will fish most of the year for 1 1/2 to 2 kilo snapper... it's a great area to head if it is too rough to venture out offshore
  16. Wow! that's amazing Lloydy... something you definitely don't see everyday
  17. I also lock the drag up and never freespool.... 'cos I use big baits, it's nothing for me to have the snapper sitting there munching up my bait and crushing it for at least 5 mins or so like a dog enjoys crunching a big bone before the snapper makes a run for it and hooks up

  19. vb4me wrote: Exactly.. you'd be surprised how big a bait a snapper can swallow.... they can open their mouths very wideSometimes I fish with baits nearly as much as 1 kilo in size (such as whole sambo trouties
  20. Gamakatsu Octopus 7/0 and 8/0.... big hooks, big baits = big fish
  21. Yep! I saved half a bucket of juice on my last batch and took it out in my boat to use but my mate thought it was waste water and threw the lot over the sideI leave them in the salt over night and brush the salt off as I put them in the ziplock bags.. they last forever in the freezer
  22. Those of you who've fished with me know how much I love fishing for snapper with the humble pillie :cheer: ...... here's how I do mine to toughen them up a bitI don't brine my pillies.. I just layer them in swimming pool salt A box of some sort (a suitable sized esky) You'll also need a few kilo of the cheapest possible non-iodized table salt. Expect to use a half kilo of salt for no more than two and a half kilo of weight of bait.Swimming pool salt may be the cheapest to use (10 kg for $4.29 at Woolies)After covering the bottom of the esky with bait about an inch thick, cover it liberally wi
  23. Buy some of this stuff it is very goodhttp://www.salt-x.com.au/product_odourbuster.htmWe used to use for our dogs and cats when they were house trainedBelieve me this stuff will remove any stench
  24. Sheesh... I can smell it from down south. Try using vinegar to get rid of the smell. I had the same problem in December during that heat wave, I didn't realise a mate had left some KGW frames in a plastic shopping bag in a bucket in my boat and found it 3 days later..... that smell just doesn't wash off your skinWell, at least I killed about 3 million flies in process who had drowned in the liquid
