  1. So is the dog tied to the pot too? I didn't know snapper liked them! More likely to attract sharks and RSPCA inspectors
  2. Cheers Jagger, I taught flyfishing in the UK for 12 years, the pleasure I get from seeing others catch is better than catching myself (well, almost!). I didn't realise how sought after this job was until I was offered it. Very privileged, to use an English phrase - must have trod in some dog sh*t!Living the dream here...
  3. Hi everyone, sorry it's been an age since I've posted my knowledge on UK freshwater fish  but it's been a bit hectic in damo land. First we moved house and then I've been going through a job application that's been pretty intense.Anyway, I've got through and am gonna be a Fisheries Officer with PIRSA down in Mount Gambier. Means a big move from Christies Beach for me and the family but I can't wait. Not bad for a Pom who's only been here 10 months hey? Thanks for all you help and info on this site from even before we arrived in this great land and I hope to catch up with some of yo
  4. Def a massive koi, seen them approaching 20lb in the UK. Goldfish don't have barbules by their mouths and the biggest I've heard of is around 8lb (although the larger ones are usually brown, not gold). Imagine the size of the goldfish bowl in that bloke's bedroom!
  5. Nice fish. More importantly, did you manage to get the oil stain out of that jacket? I've been so worried.....
  6. I've managed fisheries in the UK for 12 years as a job and I can honestly say I have never heard of anyone using WD as an attractant. Some of the anglers sniff it to keep warm though
  7. Hi Chevin,I've been here since March. Moved over from Swindon in the SW of England. I know a little about carp fishing (managed fisheries there for 12 years) so if you need some help I'm sure I'll be about in Sept.Damien
  8. Hi LBB,We don't know anyone in Adelaide, just a few in Brisbane (bit far to go for a cuppa tho!). We have a 6 week rental in Christies Beach then we will be looking for longer term rental when we find a suburb we like. It's me, the mrs and our kids (8yr boy and 4 yr girl). I'm coming over as a brickie but have managed fisheries for 12 years in the UK, have a degree in it etc so may be able to help you out a bit for a cup of that tea and a bacon butty Hope you have brown sauce over there! Will keep in touch,Damien
  9. Cheers LBB, will def catch up with you when we come over. Our gear got shipped yesterday so now sleeping on the floor for 5 weeks, no saucepans, cutlery, TV etc - aargh! So can you return the carp in Oz if they are in a lake then? It's gonna be difficult to kill big carp, although I do understand the reasoning behind it.Damo
  10. Hello All!I'm moving to Adleaide from the UK in March. My stuff gets shipped next week. Anyone want me to bring any coarse or fly gear over for them? I'll only charge the cost of the gear plus shipping costs in my container.Let me know asap!Damo
