  3. Del wrote: its obvious.. you havnt met sandy.... hahhahahaha he got no chance!hell no... took me 6 weeks to get my chevy hat back.... i nearly threatened a law suit....
  4. Del wrote: oohhh hes trying , believe me... i reckon there is a strong posibility vb will be the first bloke i know of to land a snapper from the rocks using a plastic....i will then take my hat off to the man, ( not a platapus hat... i dont have one of them )
  5. Del wrote: im hearing you... well im DONE with the rod.... shes all ready to go, new thread, epoxy, varnish, and i put a snapper sticker on it as well hahahahaaha.pics later... but i was not very happy when i varnished it... it looked great, UNTIL this morning, when i found a couple of bristles had came out of the vrush i used, and are now part of the rod.. i could dig em out, but that would leave a small divot in the varnish, so staying put there are...in 10 yrs time i will give it another bday hahahahanow waiting on thread, when that arrives, ive got my other snyder rod to do, followed by a
  6. fishnfreak wrote: thats a nice fish.. real deep in colour.... some say the colour indicates the dept, or whats on the bottom.. ive caught them almost white sometimes, but other times you would swear they were bream being really dark in colour like your fish..
  7. fishnfreak wrote: big fish may still arrive in the shallow water... if they do, look out... hahahaha... they run so much harder in the shallow water...
  8. afishyfish wrote: that could be a problem for sure... im under an enclosed veranda so not really an issue with me
  9. well all thread work complete, and slowly turning now to dry the epoxy resin.decided not to attepmt marbling on this rod... its just too good a rod it will get a 2nd coat in the morning, then turn for another 24 hrs... then on goes the varnish to protect everything, followed by another 24 turn, then another varnish with yet again another 24 hr turn... phes.. im looing track of how many hours its going to turn for,.pics coming in the next few days....next is to start on the 12 ft snyderglas.i reckon the 12ft will get the marbling... its a marroon colour and hopefully will come out allright. bu
  10. its made by WILSON... uv rod varnish, comes in 50ml bottle, and cost me 7.50 from tackleshop... high gloss.....ive brushed a 12 ft snyder with it, and not used much at all.. i reckon it would do 3 or 4 rods....
  11. im my case, a workmate whos a keen fisho, has an ugly stick with a broken eye... hes asked me to have a look and put a quote in.. ,havnt seen the rod as yet, but the quote is, buy the thread, and i do for a favour...
  12. Del wrote: should be able to get out of it for around 40-50 bucks... if your like me, when you have finished and admired your work, you will do it again... if not, im sure someone on this forum will buy what you have made up.
  13. Del wrote: del i will take a few more pics of the rotator bracket i made up for the cheap bbq spit motor i bought from the hardware store. no doubt you can get one cheaper than i can, and someone close by should be able to knock you up a simple bracket to mount it.my bracket took me all of 20 mins with a guiltine and a tig welder to make.its cheap, works, and will make that legendary rod you have all the better.mine is also not being done in a shed, but it is under a veranda.
  14. looking good for sure del....after spending the time doing what you have done, i bet after shes all spruced up, you will regret not giving it some new thread work.i would be using an underbinding thread to protect the rod blank from damage that the foot of the eyes can cause.with the rod i did up for a friend the other mth, and my snyderglas im doing now, i will be using a rod varnish, ( name escapes me now) brushed on and left to slowly turn to dry.the friends snyder i did was the maroon colour, and came up looking a treat.cant wait to put some of this stuff on my mustard snyder to really bri
  15. del as per text mesg.... give it a real birthday... you wont regret it...my rod will be unique now, and worth all the more to me.this work im doing is addicitve... when the big 153 snyder is done, the 144 snyder will also get a birthday. and some custom touches as well...proof of the quality of that big snyder, is the truth that ive only replace thefirst big eye, that was broken,... i could have tog welded it up, and used it again, but a steal of a bu at 10 bucks for a new eye i just couldnt pass up.all the other eyes and the line tab at the base of the rod are the original 30yr old stuff... a
  16. vb4me wrote: platapus is a great line for the rocks... and yep, its great value. im using el ceheapo from big w, recently testing out 30lb, which isnt too bad... used to run 35lb, but regardless, its changed often.at 6 bucks for 450mtrs, it aint to bad... has some stretch though, but that doesnt bother me too much.speaking of which, time for a re spool as ive lost a fair bit of whats on there...
  17. Del wrote: rod turner del? you giving it a varnish and new thread perhaps, if so, check out the post of th snyderglas im doing up... my big rod.i bought a spit rotator from home hardware, 41 bucks, simple bracket and a bit of 8mm key steel for a shaft, and its working a treat.

PRAY thats its an avley 650C. if so , the bargain you got on the rod, is 100fold with a free alvey.if the rod is for an alvey, the first eye, should be about half way up the rod.... and HUGE in size.practice practice practice... school ovals are best... spool it up, and practice practice practice. now im VERY bias towards the alvey...but if you master it, you will think every other reel on the market is a toy....post some pics up when you get them.... I have to agree, although I don't use them as much as I should, the Alvey is without a d

  20. ve tired the Gamakatsu Octopus in 6.0 from the rocks... i tied a heap of rigs, with the octopus as the bottom hook, and a normal suicide hook above abut an inch away... then i tried with the normal hook on the bottom and the other just above it.inconclusive, as more times than not, the snapper have missed the octopus, and hit the el cheapo suicde, on either the top or the bottom..but the octopus's have landed me fish from the rocks.but for the price of them, im not buyinh them again, im sure they are fine for a boat, but not for the rocks... i lose enough gear now to these rocks, without chuck
  21. advantage wrote: when it comes time to do the marbling on the snyderglas, i will be using jack erskins epoxy... designed for thread work.( just about any tackle shop should carry it)comes in 2 parts, and IMPORTANT to mix equal resin and hardener.lollipop stick to stir, and either after mixing, pour onto a flat surface( a bathroom tile is good,) or to stop bubbles when its brushed on, use a straw to gently blow any bubbles out ( but not sure if it will blow the paint around or not...thinking it would)i would be using the straw on a coat OVER the dried paint to get any bubbles out.its just somt
  22. advantage wrote: gday matey... do you mean the marbling? or the rethreading im doing? if its the marlbing, this is the video i watched to learn... PRACTICE ON SOMETHING NOT OF GREAT VALUE is a bit of advice first.this is my landing net, and i used araldite for the epoxy rather than the proper stuff. the snyderglas im doing up will get some marbling done using the good stuff.for a bit of practice, i reckon an curtain rod from the hardware or spot spotlight store will do the trick...its pretty easy, and let your imagination run wild.hope this helps...
  23. i heard a very strong rumour today, that the boat they owned has been sold by the goverment...
