  1. Thats some pretty serious gear your after for snapper. I have a penn 220 gto on a 10-15kg rod and that was overkill even for large snapper. Almost like winching them in I think the line used was only 10kg mono. Just depends on how else you are gonna use the gear I suppose as to what you should purchase.

Cool. Sounds like an interesting idea
  3. Going off the rods that you are using I would probably go for 15 lb which is 6.8kg. It really all depends on how you are going to use the reel. Sounds like its a bit of a general purpose type of thing with you swapping the reel between a few rods.My first rod was set up with 7kg line and was used on whiting flathead and bream. It caught spotted mackeral in the GC Seaway and a nice jewie in the broadwater at night plus countless rays up to a metre wide and all on a rod that was rated to 5kg. It was the only combo I had for years.
  4. If the beach doesnt have a lot of snags (reef or rocks) I would think that the 8kg should be ok. I spooled my alvey up with 10 kg to fish for snapper off the rocks. RockNev uses 25lb for better abrasion resistance. If you are respooling anyway then it might be worth stepping up for your sharks. Give it a go with your current set up and see how it goes before spending money on something that you may not have to

    Lucanus Jigs

Been around for a little while now and quite a few copies around too. Daiwa have one called a bay rubber which I believe is even more expensive than the shimano lucanus. River to Sea have the octo sniper, Gillies have the octa killer I think which my missus has now got. I have a lucanus. So we are yet to have a jig off to see which one works better
  8. Got a pic?? What about tracing the bib profile and cutting a new bib then Grinding??? cutting out the remaining bit of bib and replacing with the new cutout. araldite should stick the replacement bib in for a long time.
  9. Tis a terrible addiction we suffer from. No known cure and therapy costs a fortune. When not out fishing ya read about fishing, go online to find more info related to fishing or go to therapy (tackle shop) to ease the tension of not getting a fishing fix. Its time to seek medical attention when you wake up in the morning with a huge grin on your dial from dreamin you just caught your trophy fish. Bugger Im off. Got an appointment to make
  10. Yep. Thats definitely on the cards, although apparently after their next shutdown a safety audit will be conducted and hopefully after maybe some more "safety barriers" are put in place the feeling is that the fishing will be reinstated according to this particular security guard. Nice bloke too. Very helpful and didnt mind a chat
  11. According to security at the gate as long as you were with an employee or former employee or were a former employee yourself and signed in it was ok to fish there, but a couple of employees have recently stuffed that up.
  12. We're all clowns because we can see that people of other nationalities in general ( Not all mind you) tend to disregard our laws especially towards fishing. take anything they can. Yeah come to our country then bitch and moan about our laws . If you dont love it or respect it LEAVE. I dont care if your an interstater (I am) or non national. learn the local laws and abide by them, whether you agree with them or not. Ok. Make mine an icy cold VB. First rounds on you :silly:
  13. found this while digging up info on squid.
  14. Havent seen that 1 before. Was it the host that ruined for you or the content of the show?
  15. Definitely not the best presenter around but the fishing seems to be a bit more varied from the episodes I've seen anyway.Who was the guy that used to be on Fishing WA. He was a bit of a clown but still informative. Good for a laugh while enjoyng some good fishing action.
  16. What is peoples favourite fishin show/s? I reckon ifish is probably one of the better ones although I did like it beter when Lee Rayner was still on, wonder if he left cos of the crap Paul Worstling constantly laid on him? Saw a good episode of Fishin Trip last night. Jason Kennedy wasnt on It had Adam Royter, Mark Phillips and Michael Guest.Fishing WA I think went down hill after Jacko got on. Used to really enjoy it beforeHooked with Dave Buttfield aint to bad either.
  17. Hey plankton good link. Read a few posts and this guy knows his stuff.
  18. Rob Wilson may be the bloke to call then. Mmmm you'd reckon teflon would have to feel smooth. So far all the info I have come across is that these upgrades are for overhead reels.
  19. Definitely will be looking into it now i think. Got a little daiwa reel that the drag is a bit shuddery on so I ll have to see if there is something that will fit. Thanks guys
  20. Cool. Thanks for that ranger. Looks like a phone call may be in order.
  21. Ok. Smoothness is the key factor I was asking about them. They do seem to be mainly for overhead reels from what I can find. Was hoping they may have been available for spinning reels. So you feel they are worth the time to change them over then Ranger?
  22. Has anyone had any experience with these drag washers.? Will they fit any reel or are they model specific? Is the upgrade worthwhile? I suppose that depends on the reel being upgraded. Just after peoples thoughts.Cheers Vb4me
